'There you are'. And it was pathetic, really, how much that simple sentence made him feel at ease. How it sufficed to quell the worry in his gut, and rendered him unable to pronounce a single word of the carefully elaborated speech he made up on the way here.

Summary
There was only so much you could do to a dead man, you see, before he became more of a liability than an advantage. In theory, the idea of not killing Ghost— of keeping him alive, taking him back to the base and torturing all the information they could get out of him was a good one. However, in practice, the issue became more complicated.
Or— Ghost is sent home to recover after being victim to cartel torture, and then Soap shows up.

First of all, i marked this for later at some point and i am so glad for it.
Second, what a fic. Absolutely incredible writing. The characters are so human, and the plot is really really well done. There are many little comments and descriptions that never get mentionned again which is so great because it just paints a more human picture w/o feeling artificial. Like the guy in church who was scpetical towards non christians. So you just brush these details off, and then, all of a sudden one little thing that was said 3 chapters before makes its reappearance (looking at you, walnut cake).
And the Moore family being mentionned before the grand reveal was also such a good ideaAnyway, loved this
