Summary
Just because Alec keeps breaking the Clave's rules for his siblings, it doesn't mean he likes doing it. Doesn't mean he's ready to face the consequences for his own shortcomings in his own personal relationships. Especially, when he doesn't know what the rules are.

"I know. It's not your fault. I'll be okay. We still have many, many years ahead of us, and I'm more than happy. It's just hard when I get reminded of it... But don't worry about me," his husband finished with a sad smile, a tear rolling down his cheek.
Alec reached out with his free hand and wiped it away with his thumb, cupping his jaw. Tears welled in his own eyes too. "I'll always worry about you," he said gently. "I... I really wish there was a way," he whispered.
"But there isn't... The only way for you to become immortal is to turn into a vampire but then you couldn't be a Shadowhunter anymore. And you can't live without being Nephilim any more than I can without my magic." His voice was quiet, defeated.
After a long moment, he spoke again. "There could be... We just have to keep looking. I won't give up, Magnus. I won't," he said, determined.
OR: Alec is set on finding the key to immortality while still remaining a Shadowhunter, in order to be with Magnus forever. He believes he's willing to give up anything for it, no matter the price. Magnus is worried about his husband.

Magnus was dead. He knew that. It had been painful, and it had been long. It had only taken him 900 years to truly die. 900 years was a long life, maybe not as long as some other warlocks but Magnus couldn't come to care. He hoped for one thing, to be given back one thing. He did not know if the angels would grant him this, but he hoped and he begged.
