"Charlie doesn’t understand why he’s not getting paid extra to attend The Boss’s birthday/networking/early Groundhog day party. Or why so many people showed up in the first place. He doesn’t understand a lot of things. Looking down, he watches the way Pim clutches a red solo cup to his chest, like it’ll keep him steady. Pim catches his stare for half a moment—this tiny, upward glimpse that he’s been giving Charlie a lot lately—a look that seems to say, despite everything, he’s the most interesting person in the room. Maybe even the world.
Again, Charlie doesn’t understand a lot of things."
