All is right with the world when the war ends and the tyrant Fire Lord is defeated. Previously missing Crown Prince Oikawa Tooru finally takes the throne from his father and secures a firm alliance with Avatar Hinata and the other nations of the world.
All is well and good until newly minted Fire Lord Oikawa disappears (AGAIN), leaving the throne vacant alongside a cryptic message of six words:

I marked this fic for later all the way back in 2021 and never read it because I unfortunately do not go through my “marked for later” fics BUT NONETHELESS, I read it today, March 25th, 2026, while traveling back from Japan to Taiwan and I kinda?? Kinda wanted to cry a bit. My favorites parts were the parts where the radio station listeners were leaving their messages about their loves and relationships and the whole theme of philosophy in this fic is just so captivating. I’m a big fan of analyzing love from a philosophical standpoint—the difference between how it is as an emotion versus an act versus whatever other forms it can take. The bit where Geto and Megumi get to talk was so, so eye-opening. The characterization goes crazy. Megumi being a product of an environment made up of two parental figures who gave him so much freedom he lacked stability that he needed. Yuuji craving support and care and love because he didn’t know how to be okay alone. I went a bit crazy reading this, let me be real.
I’m so glad I gave this a chance in 2026 when I’m back in my itafushi phase and i really do think this time i was ready to read it for real, just like how the two of them got together when they were, somewhat objectively speaking, ready too. Yay :D
Some of my fave parts:
If you’re lucky and you love someone like crazy, they leave pieces of themselves with you, and you with them. It’s real amazing, the sort of sh — stuff — that stays with you. Aren’t you just made up of the things you get from the people that love you and touch you and all that? I don’t know. I just feel lucky that it was real for both of us, for a time. Obviously, it had to end and we won’t ever get back there —
But it was a good kinda loving. A real good love.
No matter the distance or the difficulty, I knew I wanted to be with him forever, and that we’ll have forever someday.
Don’t get me wrong. I think love is about the present. I think love is in the now. But I also think, knowing how young I was back then, that nothing shows more faith in your present self than believing it will have the someday it wants.

1) this was suchhhh a masterpiece and it’s giving even ME the pokemon brainworms to pick out my ow n team and draw them out and everything urg
2) FURUYA AND HIS CLAN OF TEDDYURSAS IS SO STINKING CUTE UGHHHH I TOTALLY SEE IT HIM AND THE BEARS AND THYRE JUST CHILLING I LOVE
3) I knocked into the plot line that Eijun was def some kind of time traveler within the first 10 or so chapters but the fact that he’s tied into a whole legend and everything was very cool. I know very little about pokemon lore so that’s…something I should probably remedy honestly but this fic did a rlly good job explaining things to my lil ole walnut sized brain and I very much appreciate that.
4) I probably need to reread this entire series at Some point bc I skimmed through a lot of it and I cannot for the life of me piece together certain bits (particularly w the Team Galactic stuff) but that’s a problem for later me.
5) loved this so much!! I didn’t know that Pokemon had this much lore involved at all. This was so cool. Lovedddd Miyuki and Sawamura’s pokemon teams and dynamics. Wish there was more of the side characters too and their pokemon teams haha

Or, as Wei Wuxian starts to look into the reasons behind the unsettling notion that something is not quite right, something else starts to look back.
