Summary
When Jamie Fraser dreams, he wanders to familiar places, sometimes haunted, sometimes full of unfamiliar faces. When he dreams of strangers at Lallybroch, he discovers something he had not allowed himself in many years - hope. An uplifting, slightly AU short story in which Jamie's 'ghost' is explained.
“You’ll tell me what you’re doing in this house, mistress, and you’ll be telling me straightaway.” The creeping sense that Jamie was missing a very crucial piece of information raised the hairs on the back of his neck. The woman gave him a patronizing look. “Roger, come up here. I found him,” she called over her shoulder into the belly of the hallway.
“Who are you? Answer me, by Christ!” He reached for his dirk out of reflex and realized he had been disarmed for many years.
“I’m Brianna,” she said.
“Brianna,” Jamie snorted. It was a ridiculous name for a girl.

I looked toward the sound of Bree’s voice and felt my heart falter. She was ambling curiously toward what appeared to be a solitary standing stone atop a small plateau. I’d been too distracted to hear the buzzing, but it was clear she had noticed. And I certainly heard it now.
Raw adrenaline coursed through my veins, and I broke into a run, clamoring up the hill as I called out to her.
“Bree! Stop moving! Stay away from the stone!”
But she seemed not to hear me at all, and I recognized her slow but purposeful stride all too well.
