Kem had cried through the whole thing as Carter clung onto her hand and tried to think of something comforting to say.
He never quite managed it.
Their son had been brought out of her body without a sound.
It was that almost eerie quiet that had had Carter sick to his stomach, like he was twenty-two again and trying to swallow down the bile and fear from his first real look at a trauma case. -
