Summary
It is Robby’s first day back. Everything unfolds with an almost uncomfortable sense of normality, as though the hospital itself were holding its breath. That is, until the emergency doors burst open.
A boy everyone knows is brought in—pale, unconscious, a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The atmosphere shifts instantly. Voices overlap, monitors begin to sound, and the pressure settles like a physical weight on everyone in the room.
His best resident freezes. He knows what to do, but he cannot do it. Not this time. Because this is not just any patient.

In the cruellest twist fate has ever known, neither Langdon nor Garcia were present to hear and react to this crime against their attempts at emotional health and mental sanity. So I manifested a world in which: they do.
AKA: Langdon hears Santos utter the most vomit-inducing sentence he's ever heard in his LIFE and immediately calls Yolanda to make it her problem, too. Because this is part of the best friend code: if I'm suffering you're suffering, with me.

Bruce didn’t know where the omega pup under the coffee table had come from, but he’d run a blood test on himself, and he wasn’t under the influence of any mind-altering substances. At least, if he was under the influence of those substances, the computer he’d hallucinated had said otherwise.
Bruce had given himself a round of antidotes to the most common pollens and poisons he dealt with in his line of work anyways, only to come back and find that yes, there was still a small omega pup in his living room.

But not the stupidest thing Jason had ever done. That had come later. Not when he’d let Batman take him to Ma Gunn’s–that had been a choice between a bad situation and the actual police. No, the stupid thing had been when Ma had told him to steal, and he had refused. Because Ma Gunn didn’t keep kids she couldn’t train. And she wasn’t going to risk unwanted attention by letting kids back on to the street, or by having bodies pile up, even if it was Crime Alley, and nobody was paying attention.
“If you’re not going to make yourself useful here, there are other places,” she had threatened. “Other things that street trash like you are good for.”
Jason had just gotten angry and blustery at the threat. He’d been too dumb to realize it wasn’t a threat at all. It was a warning.
