“He cares for you,” Emrys whispered, “because he can control you. He believes you are simple; insignificant. You’re like a…like a pet.”
“That’s not true.” By the time the words left his mouth, Merlin already didn’t believe them.

After stumbling across a strange stone on a hunting trip, Merlin and Arthur find themselves trapped in an inverted Camelot: a world where a Druid named Emrys is the king.
This other Merlin—charismatic, powerful and terrifying—has a strange obsession with Arthur, and Arthur appears to be falling under his spell. But nothing here is as it seems; and if Merlin and Arthur can't be honest with each other, they may never make it home alive.

The rock accelerated out of Merlin’s hand, shattering the window as it flew into the world. He placed his bare foot and hands on the sharp-edged ledge.Cold wind blew on his face, ignoring everything else. Just as his body was just about to fall, a wrist grabbed his ankle.
“Let go!” Merlin screamed out. His voice was warbly and raw.
“Are you insane?! No!” Gwaine shouted.
“Of course I am! Let me go!”

Arthur hugged him tighter and Merlin raised his own hand to detach Arthur from his body.Arthur looked so torn. Heartfelt. Merlin looked broken. Empty.

“Leave me alone!” he attempts to persuade. “Oh? How would I punish you for eating my cake then?!” Arthur says, cackling as he grabs Merlin by the legs, pulling him down to land on the bed. “Mine!” Merlin says, going to eat the last bite from his fingers.
Arthur rushes forward and takes the last 8th of the cake with his lips. “What a delight. The last bite of my cake."

“Mordred, right?” Arthur asked, kneeling in front of him. The boy nodded, eyes wide as he looked at Arthur as if he might bolt at any moment. “What are you doing back in Camelot? My father won’t like seeing you again.”
“He’s hurt.” Mordred whispered and Arthur glanced over at where Merlin was unconscious. A sudden realization dawned on him.
“You healed him,” He said slowly “With magic.”
Mordred nodded. Arthur’s mind raced – thinking of all Merlin had survived in his encounters with bandits and sorcerers. Before he could ask if Mordred had been responsible for all of it, there was a groan as Merlin shifted, eyes flickering open.
“Arth – you!” He choked, sitting up quickly to grab Arthur’s arm as if he could yank the prince away. Mordred grinned.
“You’re awake!” He beamed and launched forward to hug him. Arthur watched as Merlin stiffened at the action – eyes widening before desperately trying to push him away.
“Arthur. Arthur, get him off of me-”

After sneaking Mordred out of Camelot, he occasionally returns to make sure Merlin is doing okay. Arthur isn’t sure why this child is so concerned about the wellbeing of his servant… Nor Merlin's vehement attempts to ignore it.
