They stare at each other for a long moment, quiet and still. There’s movement in the other bunks, easy to hear through the thick curtain that separates Sora’s bunk from the others’. Riku and Sora breathe in sync, some unnamed tension building as they strain their ears for signs that Sora has awoken the others.
Riku visits Sora's bunk to wish him a happy birthday...

Sora swallows hard as he feels gentle hands around his wrists, pulling them away from his aching eyes. “It hurts,” he complains, but allows Riku to slowly pull him into a seated position against the headboard.
“I can’t believe you kept this,” Riku says, and then he’s wrapping impossibly soft fabric around Sora’s eyes. The fabric dulls the bright light, and something about the gentle pressure against his eyes, his temples, and the back of his head soothes some of the throbbing. The storm abates and takes some of the persistent nausea with it. “Is that better? Not too tight?”
Sora inhales slowly, oxygen shuddering into his lungs. “Y-yeah, that’s… that’s much better. Thanks, Riku.”
Post-Quadratum. Sora and Riku wake up in each other's bodies and must figure out the key to swapping back. Should be simple, since they know each other so well... right?
Or: Sometimes you don't know someone as well as you think, and the strangest circumstances give you the opportunity to see them in a different light.

Sora’s cheeks flush red, a pleasant peachy pink which reaches his nose and sadly obscures some of Riku’s favourite freckles. “Well, I— that is—” he sputters, his eyes going big and wounded. “I can’t exactly help that, Riku! Who am I supposed to have kissed!?”
Riku’s mouth goes dry, and his traitorous brain unhelpfully reminds him that they’re close together. So close that he could just lean in… “Me,” he answers raggedly, his own eyes wide as the word drops from his shock-numb lips. “I could teach you.”
It was a stupid thing to say. Riku knows it is, quite possibly, the dumbest thing he’s ever blurted out.

It shouldn’t have been such a surprise, really. Riku’s heart belonged to Sora, he knew that. Every beat of his pulse etched it deeper into his skin, and every time Sora turned to smile at him it made his stomach flip for fear that this time Sora would see it – would catch him in the act of an unguarded look, or a touch that lingered too long. He was careful, so careful not to let that happen.
But his heart belonged to Sora, and Sora had just reached right in and taken it, was holding it in his hands like it was the most natural thing in the world. Just casually stripped away all the protective layers around Riku’s soul and laid the evidence bare. All that effort, that delicate balancing act of keeping his feelings appropriately disguised, laid to waste in an instant.
