    Summary

“Sweetheart, your pretty little head is so silly. For every photocard I make of ugly hockey men, I make two of my gorgeous, radiant, pulchritudinous boyfriend. Sometimes three.”

A smile breaks through the heated haze of Shane’s expression. “You’ve been using the thesaurus Dad got you for Christmas?”

“I will beat Yuna Hollander at Scrabble one day,” Ilya declares against Shane’s hip bone.

In the year between the Cottage and the Centaurs, Ilya misses Shane more than ever. Svetlana’s teenage cousin offers a coping method: Kpop-style Shane Hollander photocards to stare at all day long. It's a shame carrying around pictures of fellow hockey players is just not socially acceptable.

    …At least, not yet.

(AKA: Ilya's mission to desensitize the hockey world to his Hollander fanboyisms, and the NHL players that suffer for it.)

The banter and bickering between Shane and Ilya is perfection in this story. Ilya becoming obsessed with photocards is hilarious, and the way it plays out is really touching. And it does not shy away from the tough parts!

    Summary

No one would believe it now, but Ilya Rozanov was a shy kid, prone to tears. Small for his age. An easy target.

After his mother’s death, he threw himself into hockey. He hit a growth spurt. He started lifting weights, became big and strong. Not as big and strong as his older brother, but big enough to make Alexei and the other bullies think twice. Strong enough to fight back.

(Or: Five times Ilya has to go home to Russia, and one time he chooses to go home to Shane.)

This isn’t what Ilya had in mind when he figured they’d be spending most of their time at the cottage in bed.

He throws his arm over his eyes and groans. “I am ruining our time together. I am ruining your time off.”

“No you’re not,” Shane says. “Are you kidding me? I’ve basically been fantasizing about this.”

Ilya lowers his arm. “About me puking all over your favorite place on earth?”

“No, you asshole. About taking care of you.”

    Ilya stares at him.

    Shane says, defensively, “What?”

“I fantasize about you fucking yourself on boring beige dildo,” Ilya says, voice cracking, “and you fantasize about me being sick at your cottage so you can take care of me?”

I wound up reccing this story three times in one week to people who were looking for stories in which Ilya is struggling with his feelings about families and his bad home life when dealing with Shane’s family. Featuring: a disassociation episode after breaking a bottle of wine and Ilya sick at the cottage with Shane (and eventually the other Hollanders) taking care of him. The last half in particular will really stick with you.

    John's #1 Parlay of the Day @johnchukbetzone
I'll leave it to others to argue whether the relationship should even be permitted by the league. But vital information was concealed from bettors by failing to disclose when it started. Hollander & Rozanov may have allowed billions of dollars to be wagered under false pretenses.

I really should have known that the people with the absolute most deranged and late-stage capitalism reactions to the Rozanov/Hollander relationship would be online sports gamblers. You got me there. That one's on me.

Halfway through Shane and Ilya’s first season playing together in Ottawa, an online sports betting company figures out how to make itself the main character when it comes to social media’s new favorite topic.

Often hilarious, very in character and shows just how crappy the sports betting services are. Also, the social media handles are GENIUS.

    Summary

Rush week confirms a lot of things. Ambitions, fears. Where do I fit? What if I don’t fit anywhere? Nervous freshman bitten-lip shit. Being an active, a senior, means having answers. Shane has no further questions.

Or, Shane’s in a frat. Ilya rushes.

    Bookmarker's Notes

I never expected this from a frat AU. I want to dissect this story in a lab and figure out how the author conveyed the tight miserable claustrophobia of the frat house so well that I kept feeling like the walls were closing in. The romance is beautiful, the tension between Shane being who he is supposed to be and who he actually is as a person is brilliant. Some of it made me feel like I was being smothered with a pillow, and I mean that as a compliment.
