Summary
His not-boyfriend pokes him in the side, asking, “You alive there?”
Gabe laughs, and the motion makes his head swim. “What world are we in?” he jokes.
Not-Boyfriend raises an eyebrow. He drawls out an “Okay, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but you’re cut off, dude,” reaching over to pluck the joint from between Gabe’s fingers.
His look of concern is the funniest thing High Gabe’s ever seen, but it might also be endearment he’s not quite sure how to handle. He chuckles about it, regardless. “You think I’m crazy,” he states.
“I think you had one hit too many."

Summary
"I should've known better than to try baking when mad."
He makes a sympathetic noise. "You like baking?"
"No," she says flatly. "I just—I don't fucking know, I just wanted something for myself for once and I thought—" She cuts herself off, turning to brace herself on the countertop "It's stupid. I thought I could make one thing that didn't get ruined by everything but that's not how it fucking works, I know that."
Or: The Goodman siblings versus baking cupcakes at two in the morning—what could go wrong?

Summary
“Oh, what the fuck?” both she and the strange boy breathe out at the same time.
Natalie groans, rubbing her eyes. “I’m too high for this,” she grumbles.
He points at her, almost accusingly. “I’m not,” he says.
“Gold star to the hallucination, then,” she deadpans, pinching the bridge of her nose. The shock of knocking over the pot sobered her enough that she feels less like she’s floating through time, but clearly she’s still tripping on something if she’s seeing him now.
That, or it’s not the fault of the drugs. But she’d rather not consider that possibility.
“I’m not the hallucination,” he says. “You are.”
Or: Five times Natalie meets the Gabe that could've lived, if she hadn't.

Summary
“C’mon, Nat,” he drawls out. “You know you’re gonna miss me.”
She pauses, then finally turns. “Does that mean you can’t follow me?” she asks, giving into the curiosity. She’s wondered about it before.
He shrugs. Asshole, she thinks.
Or: The evening before she moves for college, Natalie has a conversation about what she's leaving behind.
