Eventually, Dirk catches him watching and throws a smile over his shoulder, accompanied by a tiny wave. Todd can see the way the matching ring on Dirk’s left hand catches the light as well, from all the way across the room. That tiny, innocuous sparkle makes his stomach flip, its significance like an invisible two-ton weight suspended above his head.
