Summary
The thing is, there was a brief point in time in which he could have told her – not all of it, not details, not the real truth of it – something like there’s a boy but he has to be a secret, and she of course would have kept that secret. Like she kept Sasha a secret, like he kept her worst boyfriends and best girlfriends secret. A brief window between when the thing with Shane became something worth mentioning, and before he got greedy, got desperate, and fucked it all up.
Ilya has some conversations with Svetlana as he goes through the torment nexus and finds out what's on the other side.

He’s just about to light up when hears his own name:
“Ilya Rozanov?”
Ilya turns. The man approaching him is smiling as he approaches.
He’s a little awkward, Ilya thinks, then the man holds out his hand.
“Shane Hollander, I thought I should introduce myself.”
Total fucking dork.
Ilya shakes Hollander’s outstretched hand and resumes lighting his cigarette.
“Oh, um, I don’t think you’re supposed to smoke here,” Hollander says. He’s looking over Ilya’s shoulder, at the no smoking sign two feet away.
Ilya exhales. “Don’t worry. I brush my teeth before shoot.”
Hollander blushes, a baffling response considering that he’s probably going to have Ilya’s dick in his mouth within the hour. “I wasn’t, um. Thinking about that.”
He has freckles, Ilya notices. Shane Hollander has freckles. He has freckles and a pretty mouth and a bit of a baby face. God, they’re going to do numbers.
Shane and Ilya collide on the set of a porn shoot early in their careers. Things escalate from there.

The charge of seeing Scott like this, sizzling with energy and salty with sweat, surrounds Kip like a net and pulls him under.
He is not used to this feeling, the thrill that courses through him that this Scott—team captain, public figure—can be claimed as his. He wants to do so, but has no idea how to negotiate this new world and new arrangement. Scott scans the room and sees him, eyes bright.

His mother stared at him, wide eyed and more than a little panicked. "Shane, honey, what do you remember?"
He searched his mind for a memory of this game, of the injury - but nothing came to him. The pain worsened, and he groaned, clutching his head. Fuck, that hurt.
"Shane, is okay. Don't hurt yourself more, please." Rozanov said. He moved his hand towards Shane's, trying to grasp hold of it.
Shane swatted him away violently, aghast. What the fuck was he playing at?
"Get the fuck off of me, Rozanov."
Both Rozanov and his mother gaped at him.
"Shane-" Rozanov tried again, but Shane wasn't having it.
He was beginning to panic. It was too much; the too-bright blue lights, his mother's panic, the constant beeping of the monitor, the big gaping whole in his memory, the godawful scratchy feeling of the cheap fabric of the hospital gown - it was all making him lose his fucking mind because it was making him itch and too hot and - and worst of all, Ilya fucking Rozanov was trying to hold his hand and call him sweetheart in front of his mom.
(post-book one, shane gets injured & forgets ilya)
