It wasn’t so bad when Ed was just picking up the occasional shift; they were work friends, not real friends, and if Izzy’s heart jumped every time he saw Ed’s name on his list, it was nothing that a large glass of whisky and a quick guilt-wank after work couldn’t fix. Now Ed’s always working, and on the rare occasion he’s not on Izzy’s list, Izzy can pull rank and have him reassigned, which he always does.
Ed thinks it’s just luck that they always end up working together. He started calling Izzy his work wife, and when Izzy pointed out that title should probably go to Jack, Ed said “nah, he’s my deadbeat work cousin.”
