It was the first time Beatrice had heard such words spoken to her.
And for so many years, she thought it would be the last.
But time was a strange thing. And as Beatrice would eventually come to learn, moved slowly when one had the potential to live until time itself crumbled.
And as she moved with time, she clung to those words. Her name was Melanie, Beatrice learned later, and she clung to her for as long as she could.
Beatrice had resigned herself to never hearing them again, not from another's lips, and certainly not in her dreams.
Vampires, Beatrice realised quickly, didn't dream.
She never could have known that one day, more than five hundred years later, she would hear those words again.
Or how those five simple words from one specific girl would change her entire world.

It's almost lonely, this new calm in Imogen's head. Usually at the market she'd be treated to Laudna's light, musical inner dialogue about the ripeness of fruits or the bread Zhudanna might like best, but instead it's just quiet. All Imogen gets is what Laudna shows on her face, and the words she says out loud. Words like you don't have to listen in to get my thoughts. I'll always share them willingly. You can just ask.
There's only one thing Imogen wants to ask right now. It's blaring in Imogen's mind like a temple bell, so loudly that even with the circlet she's sure Laudna must be able to hear it. And Laudna is looking at her so sweetly. Every moment they've been parted has made this all-consuming feeling worse, harder to pack away, and this could be her last chance to say it. Her only chance.
She has to say it. She has to ask.

Ava laughed a little, and Beatrice felt her mood lift at that sound. “Yeah, Halo’s the unofficial mascot now with the sign. Mother Superion is not happy about that, I’ll tell you.”
“Mother Superion?”
Ava pointed towards the corner on the left side of the back wall, where a majestic black cat sat on top of the shelves, surveying the whole cafe like a queen.

Summary
Ava rolls over, shutting her brain off, and very carefully presses the palm of her hand on Beatrice’s waist.
Beatrice tenses immediately, a sharp intake of breath filling the otherwise quiet bedroom.
A few seconds pass with nothing and Ava starts to pull away, an apology on her lips, when Beatrice grabs her wrist. It’s so fast that Ava hardly registers what happened, but suddenly, she’s being pulled to the other side of the bed.
Ava lets it happen, helps, and now she’s hovering over Beatrice. She’s so close she can see the shine in her eyes, how wide they are and she can see them flicker to her lips and back up.
Bea’s made this move, it’s her turn now. Ava leans forward, giving Beatrice a chance to turn her away.
When she doesn’t, it’s game over. Their lips meet and every functioning part of Ava’s brain that might tell her there will be consequences to this completely disappear.
The world could set fire tonight and Ava would keep kissing her as the apartment collapsed around them.

When the cruise-ship Max and her family are on sinks, they are presumed dead. A week later, William Price dies in a car crash. Chloe sinks further than the cruise-ship ever could. Until, 5 years later, Max is discovered to have survived on a deserted island. After being brought back home, Max is distant and all Chloe wants to do is help. Little does she know, Max brought back far more from that Island than nightmares. For those who don't get the blatant references, this is inspired by the comic hero, Green Arrow, particularly the TV Series version.
