The merchant Luocha is a regular visitor to the General's personal chambers, often spending some time there for good reasons, those reasons are just as important to him as to Jing Yuan.

Luocha’s smile widened, barely, just a curled notch at the tips of his lips, somewhat adoring but not in love - but sincere admiration given to his bed partner.
“Have you calculated the next thirty-three moves I intend to do?”

Summary
The accused person had made a cot out of three chairs and was asleep with his coat over his head. He sat up as Jing Yuan entered.
Jing Yuan sized him up. He actually was about the right height according to Dan Heng’s description. His hair, bleached blonde and cropped to chin length, framed a clean, cat-like face and exceedingly sharp eyes. He still had his lab coat on, but underneath it, he was dressed in a silk shirt and slacks.
In short, he looked quite elegant, young enough to take his fashion tips from trendy social medias, and not at all like a criminal.
Jing Yuan, a late 30s veteran raising his ex's child, becomes acquainted with Luocha, overworked postdoc who has been accused of wrongdoing.

Summary
Dan Heng could not pinpoint the exact time when the newcomer had burrowed beneath his skin, could not say what had been the final crack in the shell he wore as armour around his person, could not say what had allowed Caelus to sneak in underneath it.
He could not say what changed, nor when it happened. But it did. Caelus was burrowing into his skin, not unlike the plagues of propagation, digging deeper and deeper, devouring him from the inside, and he'd been none the wiser; oblivious and unaware, save for the weird feeling in his chest whenever the other smiled at him. (Dan Heng had heard of butterflies in the stomach before, but this was more akin to ants crawling all over his insides.)
Dan Heng realised none of this until he stood frozen in place, Caelus plummeting towards the ground from the top of the Engine of Creation, a giant blade made of crystallised ice piercing his chest.
Or: Five times Caelus got hurt, and Dan Heng could do nothing, and the one time he swore to prevent it from ever happening again.

Summary
Both praised and scolded for his performance in Penacony, Aventurine re-negotiates his employment. He quits. --- Kind of.
And if there was ever any benefit to the job in the first place, it was the beautiful wonders of money. The excess of material goods he could give away, the games he could play, and the gamble of keeping his relationships as close but as far away as possible. What happens if he tugs on the rope tying together him and Ratio as "coworkers?" What happens if he pulls on that chain that ties him to the IPC? What if, after everything, Kakavasha could do something worthwhile?
OR
Aventurine and Ratio play a game together: how long can they give each other gifts until they have to acknowledge the meaning? How long can they play games with each other's (and their own) feelings before someone loses?
