Summary
But isn't desire always the same, whether the object is present or absent? Isn't the object always absent? — This isn't the same languor; there are two words: Pothos, desire for the absent being, and Himéros, the more burning desire for the present being.

KORY: The team is… concerned… about you.
ROY: That’s crap. You’re new here, Kory; you’ll learn that this team isn’t the Titans. We’re not one big happy family. But if they’re worried about my head and heart not being in this… about me feeling slighted… Well, I’m a big boy. A big boy who shoots arrows and guns. I’m here for the team. I’m here to do the job.
KORY: What about Dick?
ROY: He will do the best job imaginable. He will always give one hundred ten percent. Particularly to prove you all wrong.

“Would you change what you did if I yelled?” he asks.
Voice full of promise, Dick answers, “No.”
It’s not disappointment, as such, that courses through him, just something terrible that already existed, ossifying in his lungs hard enough to make breathing hurt.
“That’s what I thought,” Roy says blithely.
Relief is a pipe dream. A brief insight into Roy Harper's headspace after Infinite Crisis (2005).

But she wants mothering. She wants her mom, still. It faded, or was satisfied by story hour, but now she’s alone in this pale pink bedroom, this little girl time capsule, and she wants her again. She doesn’t think she’ll ever stop wanting her. The part of her that hid behind a camera crew so they didn’t have to have any real conversations, the part of her that always chose Daddy first, the part of her that broke Veronica’s heart, the part of her that stood between Veronica and danger, between Veronica and the consequences of her own actions.
Even today, she stood between Veronica and having to make any decisions. Flowers chosen, venues chosen, meal chosen. What was Veronica there for, but to say a few words and try not to cry?

“I’m not.” Betty shrugs. There are tears in her eyes again. “It’s not surprising. It’s not… deep in my heart I’ve always known that no matter what happened, I’d always be sharing you with Veronica in a way.”

Bookmarker's Notes
“She cares about justice,” she insisted, “about Gotham. She’s in this, and she’ll do it with or without our help. Keeping your distance isn’t putting her off, and it’s not protecting her. If anything, the scraps you’ve been giving her have just made her hungrier.”
“You’re asking me to condone—to accept responsibility for—a naive and reckless choice.”
“Is it that different from me, when I started?” She hesitated, stumbling on a sudden insight the way she used to sometimes miss the bottom stair, momentum propelling her forward. “Or Tim?”
