Summary
Steve and Billy head back to Hawkins for the 10 year Hawkins High School reunion. Steve's coming all the way from Seattle, he's been on the west coast finding himself through art. Billy is coming down from Chicago, where's he's in the beginning phases of establishing himself as a recording engineer. They've not crossed paths for over a decade, at least not outside of their dreams.

“It’s your fault we’re here in the first place!” Max yells at him, in the small shithole of a town, so far away from his beloved California.
“I didn’t raise a sissy!” His dad’s voice echoes in his head whenever he was at the high school’s gym eyeing the strong muscular bodies of his classmates, lifting weights, running, flexing. What he could do with someone that flexible…Sneaking out into the seemed like a good idea. He told dad he was at a concert. Rock music, not a searching for the gay clubs he heard about from his friends.

Summary
Steve liked to explain away this...situation he'd got himself into with Billy Hargrove as merely sexual tension working itself out. Two single guys, lotta tense history, a hot summer - just simple logic really.
But that didn't quite explain why his pillows were starting to smell like stale chlorine and cheap sunblock, or how that Scoops loyalty card suddenly appeared in the Camaro glovebox.
It certainly couldn't explain why Billy brought him out to the abandoned processing plant, with an old blanket thrown on the ground next to a flickering camping lantern and an already opened box of cookies.Series

Summary
Four weeks after Starcourt, Steve buries his broken heart in a box alongside a pile of blurry Polaroids, love letters from a secret relationship and the keys to a wrecked, blue Camaro.
Four years later, Steve's car breaks down in the middle of nowhere California. The mechanic at the closest shop has blue eyes and blond hair… and a name tag that says Billy Hargrove.
*****"I watched him die." Steve barely got the words out. "I thought Billy DIED. I loved him and then I lost him, but you pulled him from Starcourt and had him alive all this time? Why doesn't he remember me?"
"We erased his memories." Dr. Owens explained. "We rewrote the last few years of his life and gave Billy a chance at a decent life."
"Without me." Steve said numbly. "A life without me. I loved him."
"If you love him, then leave." Owens stated. "You being here might trigger real memories and the mental trauma could--"
"I can't say goodbye to Billy again." he whispered. "I-- I won't."
"You're making a mistake."
"Stay away from us." Steve stepped away from the doctor. "I'm not losing Billy again, so stay the hell away."
