“We have to leave.” His boyfriend greets him. Not hello, not I miss you, not even a kiss.
“W-wait. What? Did I miss something?”
Shane drags his feet; it’s been three weeks. Three very long weeks. Hayden could have made two more children by now. He really wants — no, needs—to touch Ilya in the most indecent way possible and maybe come while he’s in Boston at least five times.
“Nothing is wrong.” Says Ilya quickly, too quickly. It is then Shane notices the small panic in his boyfriend’s eyes which doesn’t help his own anxiety that’s slowly creeping in.
“Is a mistake. Stupid Marly insisted that I need to get this stupid sauna. I turned it on, lights went out. There was flashing and maybe a small explosion. Definitely dangerous. So we have to leave now, yes?”
or, Shane grows up with parents who take him camping and teach him how to fix things around the house. Ilya grows up in a metropolitan city; his idea of fixing things is to call a guy.
or, three times rich city boy Ilya tests Shane's sanity, and one other time Shane makes it everyone's problem.

Summary
“Look, red!” Shane holds his clenched fist up triumphantly, and Yuna carefully steps over the baby gate blocking Shane’s doorway.
“Let me see.” she says softly, knowing full well that there’s nothing for her to see at all. The red string of fate that ties two souls together can only be seen by the people connected by it. Her own string leads her right to David, and she can only hope that whoever’s on the other end of Shane’s string is a worthy soulmate for her baby.
“Mine.” Shane, who’s never been possessive about any of his toys, is practically growling at her; stubbornly shaking his head. He wraps his free hand around his fist, pulling both close to his chest.
She tries not to find it adorable, and fails.
