The realisation hit him rather belatedly on a cool spring day, and Yosuke might insist later that it should have happened at a different setting, perhaps one that was much more romantic with flowers and lit candles alike. Regardless, it’s amongst the litter of cardboard boxes and plastic IKEA wrapping scattered around him that Yosuke suddenly understood a fundamental truth that had been apparent within him all along.
Yosuke’s in love with Yu.
The realisation hit him quite literally too - the wooden surface of the coffee table that he had been putting together slipped from his hand and struck him on his foot.

“Yosuke…” Souji says in his best Souji voice, the one full of compassion that Yosuke loathes to love. “If it’s bothering you so much, we can just try it on each other.”
“…The what now?”
“We can kiss. Get it out of the way.” He shrugs, like he’s suggesting they buy coconut water instead of kissing each other on the mouth. “To get some practice.”

When Suzuki confesses to Yosuke, he’s not sure why he’s completely caught off-guard by it. He hasn’t been expecting it in the least, and stranger still is his hesitance to accept it.
“There’s probably a reason you didn’t fall to your knees and start worshiping Suzuki-chan at her feet once she confessed to you,” Chie tells him. “Here’s what I think: you’ll reject Suzuki-chan before the year ends. But! You’ll have fallen in love with someone else already.”
Yosuke’s not so girl-crazy these days that he falls head-over-heels for just anyone on the street. Like, who else could he fall in love with? Yu? That’d be hilarious. His partner and best friend whom he calls every day, visits more often than anyone else in the IT, and maybe is a little too touchy-feely with for normal guy friends. Yeah, right. Chie doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

As Teddie cried and debated on whether “scoring” qualified as a gift, Yu shifted his gaze to the side to find Yosuke staring at the ground, arms crossed with a solemn expression and lips pressed firmly together. The absence of his usual shining grin and amusing remarks unnerved him, yet he was one to talk as he felt his chest begin to tighten. Out of everyone he could have picked, Yosuke should have been his preferred outcome, yet he felt anxious with doubt. Did Yosuke ever mention what gifts he liked? What he already had?
For someone he proclaimed to be his partner, Yu wouldn’t be satisfied with “acceptable”; he wanted “perfect”.

Yosuke tilted his head. “You mean a bucket list?”
Yu nodded. “I guess so.”
“I’d never...take you for that kind of person, partner!” Yosuke said in astonishment. He’d figured after getting entangled in a web of serial murder cases, Yu would try to spend whatever time he had “normally”.

“Well, here it is. In all its four-walled glory,” Yu nonchalantly introduced, gesturing inside with his free hand as the other pushed the door further aside.
Yosuke wasn’t sure what to expect. Maybe the latest technology hailed all the way from Tokyo? Considering just how much of a genius he is, and with his fighting prowess, a room filled with awards and black belts would’ve made sense. Instead, he was met with barren, bleak walls with a single non-digital clock hung above a pathetically small TV. Empty metal shelves stood to the side, while the far end of the room was filled with unpacked boxes stacked as tall as Yu himself, and lastly, Yosuke noticed a small study area that had been cobbled together occupied by a few textbooks.
For someone who was the leader of a small band of teens fighting inside a TV to solve a murder case, someone who possessed natural, silver hair, Yu’s room sure was...plain. It was like his room was a testament to everything Inaba condensed into an equally small space.
===A person's room is a glimpse into their soul. Yosuke makes his mark.

Yosuke’s hand was smaller than his, and a little bony to the point where Yu thought if he gripped it hard enough, it would snap. His fingers were slim, his palms were damp with sweat, and his hands were shaking with anxiety. Despite his nervousness, his grip on Yu’s hand was strong, firm, and reassuring. The warmth that radiated reminded him that he wasn’t alone in this. He didn’t need to face the danger head-on.
He had Yosuke by his side.
