Summary
After the fall of King’s Landing, Rhaenyra Targaryen enters the Red Keep as a victorious queen and discovers that the royal treasury has vanished. The empty coffers lead her to Alicent Hightower, imprisoned in the chambers that were once Rhaenyra’s own.

'I- I would be most honored, and most grateful to accept, your Grace.' Her father's hand pinched at her, and Alicent's spine stiffened. 'We thank you for your courtesy, my Princess. My King.'
Applause broke out amid the Court, and Rhaenyra smiled at her. A full, unguarded smile. Alicent did duck her head then, her face redder than the Keep, but her father did not notice this time.
The Hightowers had been welcomed back home."

When Alicent lowered her gaze to Joffrey, she read no reproach in the little boy's eyes, merely innocent curiosity. Why weren't they friends anymore? There had been so much pain, so many elements beyond her control that had led to this situation that Alicent had never clearly dared ask herself the question, as if the answer couldn't possibly be simple anyway.
