“You’re months away from finishing your residency,” Jack points out dryly as he reaches over to rescue the glass from her hand entirely. “And you had a paper published in The Lancet. I’d say those count as pretty significant achievements.”
Samira rolls her eyes at him again, like he’s deliberately missing the point.

Samira Mohan was not standing in the Hub by 7:15. Instead, by 7:45 Jack had left her three missed calls and two voicemails. Samira Mohan is late for work. She's never late. Jack Abbot is aware of this and spends his shift responding to a massive pileup MCI while trying to not spiral about Samira's sudden radio silence. But then the paramedics bring in a patient and Jack's world stops spinning.

“You’re finally working nights?”
“I switched with Ellis,” She said. “So, you’re stuck with me for the next three days.” Her steps faltered. “Finally?”
“Are you serious? I’ve been trying to poach you from day shift since PittFest.”
“Really?”
“Really.” His response was almost instant. “You were incredible. The IO borehole, the pigtail catheter; I’m going to be talking about that for the rest of my life. Of course I want you for night shift.”
