Summary
Chuuya tries not to wonder how he did it. It’s hard not to. Half a year of searching and not a trace. No trail, no body, no note. The official report says something about a suspected drowning the middle of ocean. Sometimes he’ll hold his head under in the tub and try to imagine how it’d feel; whether it’d hurt. He comes up, nose burning, and coughs until his chest aches.
Chuuya deals with Dazai's presumed suicide and, subsequently, his actual defection.

It feels like handing a knife over and waiting to see of Dazai will slit his throat.
Instead, he feels long fingers curl into his hair, gently dragging along his scalp. It is an act so gentle that Chuuya almost wants to sob with how violently the gentleness shakes him. He doesn’t. Even if he did, he trusts Dazai not to say anything. There has always been a sacredness to the aftermath of Corruption, an unspoken agreement that vulnerability in those moments will not be spoken of later. Not Dazai’s care or whatever Chuuya might go through.
