Alec reached out with his free hand and wiped it away with his thumb, cupping his jaw. Tears welled in his own eyes too. "I'll always worry about you," he said gently. "I... I really wish there was a way," he whispered.
"But there isn't... The only way for you to become immortal is to turn into a vampire but then you couldn't be a Shadowhunter anymore. And you can't live without being Nephilim any more than I can without my magic." His voice was quiet, defeated.
After a long moment, he spoke again. "There could be... We just have to keep looking. I won't give up, Magnus. I won't," he said, determined.
OR: Alec is set on finding the key to immortality while still remaining a Shadowhunter, in order to be with Magnus forever. He believes he's willing to give up anything for it, no matter the price. Magnus is worried about his husband.

He listens to Dumbledore explain all the things he wishes he knew before, sits in King's Cross, and wonders if he really has to go back. Harry's very, very tired, and he wishes it wasn't so simple: die and move on or go back to a world that you don't know how to survive. Killing Voldemort is swell and all, but he's not much looking forward to everything after that. To grieving, growing, loving, living.
Considering the ticket in his hands, Harry decides that he's tired of going along with decisions other people make for him. This is his party, his train station, his choice. Why not make it a happier one? One that makes everything so far worth living through. He rubs at the ticket and watches it change with satisfaction. Hogwarts to Godric's Hollow, October 31st, 1981. King's Cross Station, one-way ticket.
And because he's Harry Potter, he does the unthinkable. He gives the ticket to his godfather.
In which Sirius Black wakes up in 1981, nothing makes sense, and magic can make the impossible possible.

The Ministry of Magic had decided that if they were going to be putting on the tournament anyway, they may as well go all in and dig the damned cup out of the archives for a few days for the sake of tradition.
However, there were a few fallacies to that logic which ultimately led to the events of Samhain, 1994.
Number one: the Goblet was, by nature, bound to the terms of whatever contract was being created. No exceptions.
Number two: magical objects with long-term enchantments only last if they are able to absorb ambient magic to feed off of in order to continue to function in perpetuity.
Number three: the Goblet of Fire was a wily old bastard which tended to have a lot of fun with the given definitions of “worthy” and also obeyed clauses to the letter rather than the spirit of the original agreement.
Number four: wixen are notoriously bad at writing contracts and should, as a general rule, leave that sort of thing to the goblins, who tend to be in possession of quite a bit more common sense.
Bartemius Crouch Junior entered Harry Potter’s name, he did it while not knowing that one of the terms of the contract was that anyone chosen must be an adult.
This had consequences.

After Monroe disappeared, Liam Dunbar only wanted a few things: to finish high school, control his anger, and maybe even get into the same college as Scott, or follow Mason and Corey around like an adopted son. But nothing is rosy; what was supposed to be just another boring night of (secret) patrol turns into a nightmare when they are cornered by hunters inside a cave. Total darkness. Tiny space. Knees and thighs and breaths mingling. And, to Liam's complete despair, an erection that insists on appearing at the worst possible moment. Now he has to figure out how to survive Theo, the hunters, and his own feelings — not necessarily in that order.
