He was in his twenties and he had never presented. Not as a teenager sweating through his first patrol in the Cape and Pixie Boots phase, not during the resurrection, not during three years of the most stressful operational work of his adult life, not once in a single rut cycle or heat or anything in between.
The last thing Jason registered before the white came in was that he smelled like cedar and bergamot and he was furious about it, he would be furious about it later, he was composing the argument already as the rooftop tilted up to meet him and the Gotham rain kept falling and Bruce caught him before he hit the concrete.

“Oh, Jaybird, he really doesn’t deserve a sweet boy like you,” Roy murmured, his breath hot against the shell of Jason’s ear as he continued drawing slow, hypnotic circles with his thumb around the boy's hip.
A dark, sharp smile cut across Roy's face when he felt the younger one tremble against him. He couldn't help but think of Dick in that moment, a triumphant satisfaction twisting in his chest. Really, Dick. It’s such a shame. It was almost pathetic how Dick kept wasting his chances with this kid. With a sweet boy who would have done absolutely anything for him, who literally worshipped the very ground Dick walked on.
But Dick had hesitated. Dick had walked away. And Roy wasn't going to make the same damn mistake.
