Once, on a planet that Acheron can no longer remember the name of, she found herself at the shore of a beach with white sand. What remained of the local population had already gone inside for the evening, and so she was the only witness to a breeze that sailed through the air, through her bones, through the tree leaves, until it produced a whistling noise that a flock of birds then picked up and carried out to sea. A simple tune—no more than four notes—and that was enough to give Acheron pause, to rest her gaze at the setting sun on the horizon and watch as the world changed from blue to orange to purple, and then to darkness.
