It feels a little embarrassing, but…I hadn’t ever thought about bringing Gurathin on the mission as anything other than a client. And while it had felt strange to think about him being my client again, I also don’t know how I feel about not having him as my client. My only similar frame of reference is when I’ve done duo missions with Three, since it’s not like we consider ourselves each others’ clients (that would be stupid). I’ve never worked like that with a human, instead of a SecUnit…but, if I’m going to try it with anyone, I guess it makes sense for it to be Gurathin. My brilliant augmented human. My partner.

Murderbot and Gurathin have to get all dressed up and infiltrate a corporate gala for absolutely necessary and 100% plot-based reasons (that have nothing to do with the author just thinking that would be fun to write). Summary
Why do humans call it a crush, anyway? I’ve seen actual crushing, and it’s not romantic; it’s not even vaguely appealing. In fact, it’s pretty horrific. Same for when humans describe love as “falling” for someone, or say they’re “drowning” in sensation. I remain convinced that most of my Preservation humans are simply too naïve to know what these things actually feel like. But, speaking as someone who has fallen, drowned, and been crushed (although, thankfully not all at once), I can say with authority that being with Gurathin is nothing like that.

I glance backward at the Gurathin doppelgänger with a hard squint. Cloning an entire human is illegal. Everywhere.
I did not say they did it in good faith.
Does he know? I ask, attempting to recall if I had found anything referencing this in Gurathin’s mind from the regrettably many times we have shared a hardline. Unfortunately, I cannot recall much outside the matters at hand of the time – stupid injuries, mutual distaste… a bewilderment at collections of high quality media.
I also have encountered another and they were a well trained spy and saboteur. So probably.

SecUnit is on a bot-driven cargo transport, headed to the transit ring. From there, it will find another bot-driven cargo transport, heading to RaviHyral Mining Facility. RaviHyral Mining Facility currently has three active mining installations bonded to the company. SecUnit is good at remaining motionless for excessive spans of time, close- and long-range combat, becoming overly invested in terrible media, and anticipating the worst possible outcome. SecUnit is an abysmal liar.
(Murderbot spent 7'561 hours successfully pretending to be a governed SecUnit— by following a pre-existing script and exploiting a complete lack of suspicion, which is entirely fucking different.)

“ Maybe I would be less annoyed had it not been brought up a subjective one million times (and an objective two dozen) how it was “nice to have everyone back together” on a “peaceful survey this time”. Ratthi had made sure to comment that for all that the first survey had been a “total nightmare” it was “worth it to have met you SecUnit!” That had given me the same melty feeling in my chest that I’d gotten when Mensah had told me she saw me “as a person just trying to help” back on that first survey together.
I was trying not to think about that though. Not that, or the way my drones captured Ratthi’s grin when he’d spoken. Or any of the melty and soft feelings my humans gave me sometimes. But especially not Ratthi. Because if I thought about him at all, I’d have to think about his blood on my face.”
Set in a mix of the Book Universe & the TV Universe, Murderbot and the PresAux crew are on another planetary survey mission. Everything is peaceful until it isn’t and Murderbot gets trapped in a nightmarish Time Loop like something out of one of its serials. Murderbot is hellbent on saving its humans and breaking free of the loop whatever it takes.

Kukri kept sending me media about “Robbing the Hood” and telling me to watch it, that I’d understand what was going on better if I did, but I had no interest in watching people rob Hoods, whatever those were. I didn’t like robbing in real life (I did it because I had to not because I wanted to) and I doubted I’d like it in media.
Shortly after hacking its governor module, a rogue SecUnit is involved in an ill-fated space battle and finds itself alone save for the company of a mourning raider ship bot pilot. It would like to spend the rest of its life watching media in what remains of the ship's crew quarters, but it turns out that "the rest of its life" wouldn't be long at all without the money to pay for proper maintenance. There seems to be only one way to get that money.
