Shooting Stars

Summary:

indefinite hiatus

In her cold, dark world, the stars are [Name]'s retreat. If she looked up at night, they would always be there watching her. Unlike many she had associated herself with in the past.

They lighted up the darkness inside her.

However, they weren't enough.

She would always be sitting in the dark, watching those in the light dance around with their freedom.

Chapter 1: prologue

Chapter Text

It was a clear night. But no stars were to be seen that night. If one looked up, it would simply be dark. But even if there were stars, the various lights in the city wouldn't have made them visible anyways.

In one particular street in Yokohama, a young figure wandered around. The [eye colour] eyes were dull and tired. There was no sparkle of happiness or glint of excitement in there. It could almost be described like the tired eyes of business men. Business men who lost the small joys in life. But the figure seemed too short to be described as a proper adult. Especially when compared with the other figures in the street.

It didn't seem as if the figure was heading towards somewhere particular. Annoyed shopkeepers could've called them a simple teenage loiterer. However, they had a particular aim in mind that night. It was a simple aim. To normal people, it would've seemed something they wouldn't do. But this was Yokohama, where ability users resided and used their gifts.

There was a man. He wasn't running or walking. Simply fast-walking, as if he was hurrying desperately away from something or someone.

"Better head back soon, otherwise they'll get me..." he was muttering over and over again to himself. He felt a tug from the bottom and he looked down.

A girl. Pretty young. Maybe around or under ten? The man, obviously surprised, bent down and spoke in a gentle voice.

"Little girl, are you lost?" he asked. He didn't want to deal with this, he was in a huge hurry. The girl didn't say anything. Confused, the man placed his hand on her shoulder. "Is everything okay? Do you want me to call your parents?" On the inside, he wanted nothing but to leave and be inside.

"S-sir..." The voice wss small and innocent. The girl was looking down and looked as if she was going to cry.

"Yes?" The man was getting impatient. What did this girl eeally want?

"Are you a Scorpio?" The girl looked up. The man was startled. What type of random question was that? Mentally, he tried to remember exactly what a 'Scorpio' was.

"A-ah, well I'm not too sure, child a-and I really have to get g-going now." The man really wanted to get away. The child wasn't really a normal child.

"Yeah. You're a Scorpio. I can see it." the child murmured. With that her eyes shone a faint purple and a bright light enveloped her. The man fell back, wide-eyed.

"W-wha..." he spluttered out. In front of him was no longer the the small, [hair colour] haired girl, but what seemed to be a giant scorpion.

Scorpio, sign of the scorpion

Fear struck everyone who just happened to be around. The giant scorpion was visible to everyone, but it's taeget was the terrified man in front of it. He turned and ran. The giant creature scuttled after him. Passerbys screamed. Some bent down, waiting for impact. For some, the scorpion simply passed through them as if it were in corporeal. For others, the scorpion knocked them backwards.

The man didn't stand a chance. The scorpion covered much more distance in it's running and easily overtook the man. By this time, the man had run into an alleyway in hopes of it not fitting. It was no use. He had forgotten about scorpion tails. The last thing he saw was the giant barbed tail of a scorpion hurtling towards him. And then pain exploded everywhere.

That was the first death [Name] caused as a mafia.

It was a strange experience.

She hadn't used her ability to kill before.

It was dangerous and she knew it.

But she had nothing else.

It was the start of the life she remembered.

"First job done." came the whisper.
