“I don’t kill, if that’s what you wanted to ask.” Knives murmurs softly, can’t really find it in himself to feel offended his twin’s counterpart thinks of him in a negative light if his hypothesis about his own counterpart is accurate, and tightens the grip on his hand for a second in silent reassurance that he doesn’t take the unsaid words to heart. He’s been called worse. “Hey, it’s okay. I can practically feel your head overheating.”
Vash seems to shudder in his peripheral vision, expression almost shattered, and it’s too familiar now (he’s seen that particular look too many times when he rejects his twin, over and over-).
“Nai-“
“Don’t get us lost, baby brother. Let’s get ourselves a room first, then we can talk, okay?”

is Vash loves humanity and life so much that he thinks of wiping them from existence, to have them disappear entirely in a twisted way of setting them free from the bad deeds they’ve committed—then his counterpart is the complete opposite. He wants them gone, one by one, and Knives doubts it’ll be as painless as what his brother had in mind.
(He knows this thought intimately well because, once upon a time, he used to entertain the idea when seeing the mangled body of-)

that seems to lead them all to such unhappy situations. Like, swap Vash might be openly sad but you can't tell me Millions Knives is having a good time either, he just feels like he has to be responsible for this great task in a not dissimilar way even if murder probably offers some catharsis that swap Vash probably gets from interacting with his followers.
Which brings me to the thought that it was FASCINATING to see Swap Nai piece together the differences between their worlds, especially as he started to realise that as horrid as it is that his brother isn't well in the head and is planning genocide, he somehow didn't draw the short straw between the outlaw siblings having to deal with a cult leader sibling who craves violence, who does what he does out of hate and fear instead of a warped love. Especially with how soft and shy and gentle and horribly self loathing canon Vash is, it's got to be so hard for swap Nai to think about a version of himself that cruel being the threat that has this more mentally intact version of his brother so jumpy and anxious (and self loathing because swap Nai doesn't yet know that his counterpart is a textbook gaslighter who puts the blame of his actions on Vash whenever possible - that behaviour that so shocked him here is directly influenced by another version of him and he doesn't know, good god!)
