Work Text:

It was Christmas once again, and the 118 had to work. Well, some of them at least. This year it had hit Buck, since he officially didn´t have any Children and had begged Eddie to stay with Christopher and let him take the shift, so the father could be with his son and Bobby for the same reason. But neither complained. It meant, that their loved ones were together for Christmas, so they were happy.

They were sitting around the table, eating breakfast together with the other unfortunate, who had to work today.

Sarah and Elise usually worked with the B-shift and have been dating each other for quite some time now. The two women were under the impression, that they could celebrate Christmas wherever, as long as they were together.

Ayaz, also from B-shift was Muslim and didn´t celebrate Christmas. Just like the Jewish Mordechai from C-shift.

And that was everyone, that was on shift over Christmas. Thanks to the ones present, all the fathers and mothers could be with their children, and the six weren´t too sad about working.

Breakfast had been made by Buck and Bobby and the others, who had always heard about the cooking duo from A-shift but never experienced it, were in heaven. The food was delicious.

“You have to be careful Cap. If Buck keeps cooking like that, we might just steal him over to C-shift.”, Mordechai exclaimed.

“C-shift? Forget it, we get him first!”, Sarah countered and Buck and Bobby just laughed.

“As if I would let him go!”, the Captain answered, a smile on the lips. If Buck would really want to transfer, he, of course, would let him go, but if he could, he would always have him with him on A-shift, where he could have an eye on him.

The six joked some more with each other when they heard someone enter the station. Bobby was the first out of his chair and down the stairs. Even before one of the others could even register, what was happening.

“Can I help you?”, he asked politely. The woman in her mid-forties smiled at him.

“I hope so. I am looking for Evan Jonathan Buckley? I was told he works here?”, she asked. Slightly unsure, if she had the right information.

Inside Bobby, his Papa-bear-mode as May called it, activated itself. Who was the woman? How did she know Buck? And what did she want from him?

Since the catfish incident and later the LSD brownies, they all had gotten more cautious.

“I am sorry, but I can´t just give you information like that.” The woman looked at him, slightly flustered.

“I know. I am a teacher, I know how it is. But all I know is that he works for the LAFD and that he most likely works here. Please, I just want to know that he is okay!”, she pleaded.

Bobby sighed.

“BUCKLEY”, he screamed and had Buck scramble down the stairs just a second later. Bobby stayed where he was, watching the woman. A small smile spread over her lips.

“Thank you!”, she mothed, just as Buck came to an apparat stop at the end of the stairs. He was frozen to the spot.

“Nana?”, he asked, voice barely audible. Unbelieving visible in his eyes.

“John!”, the woman, Nana? exclaimed. That was all Buck needed to get over his shock and sprint into the woman’s arms. Bobby gave them a minute before he stepped in.

“Buck?”, he asked, confused about the whole situation. The younger man took a step back but left an arm around the woman´s shoulder. Bobby couldn´t but notice the contagious smiles on their faces.

“Bobby, I proudly introduce to you Hannah Elaine Lawson. The best Nanny in the world! Nana, that is Bobby, Robert Nash, my Captain.”

“Nice to meet you, Captain.” Hannah was holding her hand out and Bobby was embarrassed, that he had forgotten to introduce himself.

“Likewise.”, he answered somehow stiffly. He still didn´t understand, what was going on. But he was ambitious, to find out.

“Mrs. Lawson, would you like to join us for breakfast?”, he asked, content, when the women nodded.

Before Bobby could say another word, Buck took over.

“How did you find me? I tried finding you, once I was out, but they had made sure, it was impossible.” Hannah smiled sadly at him.

“It was pure coincidence. My family and I moved to L.A. just a month ago. And last week I read an article about this fire station and they mentioned an Evan Buckley and I just hoped, that it would be you.”

“So you have a family? I imagine you are the best mother!” Hannah chuckled.

“I am not sure, my 15-year-old twins would agree, but thank you. But yeah, my husband and I have five children between 8 and 15.” With that, she took out her phone and showed him a picture.

“You have a beautiful family Nana.”, Buck stated, as they finally reached the loft. Bobby was fast to get another chair and add a plate right next to Buck´s half-eaten one.

As they all sat again, Mordechai was the one to take over introductions.

“So there we have Sarah and Elise. The Cap you already know. This fella here is Ayaz, the best engineer, you can find and I am Mordechai. And you are?”

“I am Hannah. I once was this one’s Nanny. We lost contact after I stopped working for his parents but I found him again.”, she answered, the ever-present smile on her lips. Buck just huffed at her statement. Bobby wasn’t sure about which part, but decided, he would ask later.

“When did you last see him?”, Sarah asked curiously.

“Well I stopped working for them when he was eight years so about 20 years?”, she looked at Buck who just nodded. Bobby saw, that there was a story, but again decided, he would ask Buck when they were alone.

For now he would let his son be happy that he found a person again, who was oblivious important to him. Even so, they hadn´t seen each other in twenty years.
