“It could be an imposter.” Obito told her firmly.
Rin’s eyes narrowed. “What could be?”
“Oh come on, Bakashi at the dango shop? With Shisui? That isn’t weird to you?” Obito snapped quietly.
“I dunno, I mean, it’s unusual.” Rin admitted. “But the chakra feels like him…plus he wasn’t at his house. Hang on,” Rin peered around the corner and made a familiar hand sign. “Release.” She whispered.
Nothing changed.
She looked back at Obito. “Not a genjutsu.”
OR: Kakashi gains friends outside of the team. Obito can't cope. Rin just tries to be supportive.

When the dust finally cleared, the team looked over in utter disbelief at the sight before them.
“B-Bakashi?” Obito stammered.
Kakashi and Gai had skidded to a stop, panting heavily and resting their hands on their knees to try and stay upright.
Gai recovered first, grinning so widely Obito was worried he’d crack his teeth. “Not bad…my dear rival…” He panted. “You’ve grown faster since our last race!”
“That was my win, right?” Kakashi huffed, still trying to catch his breath. “That was definitely my win.”
Gai sputtered. “No way! You may have improved, but I was still faster for sure!”
“Um, if I may,” Minato chimed in with an amused smile. “I believe you two arrived at the same time.”
Gai and Kakashi stared at him for a moment, taking in the information.
And then Kakashi’s shoulders slumped. “Another tie?”
“I knew we were destined to be eternal rivals!” Gai’s eyes all but sparkled. “That must be why our youthful spirits clash so evenly, so ensure we’re never apart in skill!”
Kakashi’s eye narrowed in annoyance. “Yeah right! You might have speed but I still beat you in everything else!”
Gai seemed unbothered, pearly whites sparkling in the sun as he gave Team Minato a thumbs up. “Please forgive my rival’s tardiness. I spotted him in town and felt the sparking flame of youth ignite even brighter in my soul!”
“Huh?” Obito’s eye twitched.
This is why Kakashi was late? He was hanging out with this…this freak?
This freak, who Obito remembered, simultaneously saved his life and also beat the snot out of him during the Chunin exams.

“What are you doing?” Rin whispered in confusion.

Obito gnawed on his bottom lip anxiously. “I’m telling you, something is off. Something seriously weird is going on.”
“What’s going on?”
Obito about had a heart attack as he looked up to see Kakashi and Shisui peering down at him and Rin from the rooftop above. Shisui looked genuinely amused as he gnawed on some dango, meanwhile Kakashi…
Looked awfully irritated.
