Chapter Text
"Okay then." Jon cleared his throat. "Just like for the past months, I have woken up in the dark. I am here chained and bound alongside my pale and golden brother, and he is as angry as I am."
"Chained and bound?" Ned murmured.
"While I am concerned about that as well, Lord Stark," Rhaegar began, "who describes their siblings as 'pale and golden'? That is a weird way to describe a person."
"How could our mother do this to us? To lock us away in here in the dark and refuse us to fly and hunt in the air where we belong."
"It was their mother who chained them?" Sansa asked, horrified. "What kind of mother would bind her own children?"
Everyone seemed to be equally as disturbed as Sansa was. Rhaegar had developed a small glint in his eyes. With every passing word, it seemed more and more likely that they were currently reading from the perspective of a dragon. It would explain the 'pale and golden' line as well as their supposed ability to fly.
"Unlike my pale brother, I am fortunate, for since I hatched, I have felt my rider even though he is far away from me, he is in a land filled with cold and snow. It is not usual for us to be able to connect with our riders from such a distance, but mine is special. He is strong and powerful in magic, and that is just as necessary for us to grow strong."
"So we are reading from the perspective of a dragon." Rhaegar exclaimed with a smile.
Dragons used to be the pride on joy of House Targaryen, and then the 'Dance of the Dragons' happened, and all dragons seemed to fade into extinction. Hearing that dragons seemed to be coming back into the world brought excitement into the Targaryen Prince.
"We are reading from a dragon's point of view?" Arya asked excitedly. "That's amazing!"
"'He is in a land filled with cold and snow', does that mean that Jon is this dragon's rider?" Robb enquired. "If he really is the son of Aunt Lyanna and Prince Rhaegar, then wouldn't he be the only possibility?"
"Jon, if you're the dragon's rider," Arya began, "you have to take me flying."
An amused smirk appeared on Jon's face, and a look of horror appeared on Lady Catelyn's. Arya's siblings seemed amused by Arya's actions, although Sansa had hoped that her sister would act more ladylike.
"The time has come for us to break out of this infernal darkness and find my rider. My brother will follow me, this I know for our mother has betrayed us both and we will never follow her or our angry brother again."
"So there are three dragons then." Lyanna pointed out. "The one who's perspective we are reading from, the 'pale and golden' one, and an angry one."
Bran and Rickon exchanged a glance. Three dragons sounded cool. Robb looked a little put out by their exchanged glance, Bran got into enough mischief on his own he didn't need Rickon to be involved as well.
Arya looked even more excited. The more dragons there were, the higher the chance that she would get to see one. Ned and Catelyn were getting slightly more concerned by how excited their children were getting at the prospect of dragons.
"He may be bigger than Viserion and I for now but the magic in the air where my rider is strong and in abundance. We will soon overtake him in size and strength."
"Viserion?" Bran asked his father. "Is that the name of the 'pale and golden' dragon?"
"I'd imagine so, Bran." Ned responded with a smile.
"The name reminds me of your brother." Lyanna told Rhaegar. "Do you think that this 'Viserion' was named after him?"
"I don't know." Rhaegar shrugged. "Viserys is a little full of himself right now, and I could totally see him naming a dragon after himself. But we know that these dragons were hatched by a woman, so I couldn't tell you."
"Viserion is looking at me. He knows it is now that we must act and leave this horrible place."
Arya started bouncing excitedly. She wondered how the dragons would escape their chains. The rest of the Starks looked on in amusement, and Jon was having trouble reading from trying to hold in his laughter.
"I open my mouth and breathe fire on the chain that is holding my brother, and it melts away. There is still the issue of the iron collar that is around his neck, and there is still some part of the chain hanging from it, but he is no longer bound to the wall. Then he returns the favour, and I am free of the chain like him."
Arya's eyes are glistening in excitement. A look that was reflected on Rhaegar's face. The dragons were now free. Arya was now one step closer to seeing a real dragon, and Rhaegar was happy that the dragons were no longer bound.
"We face the wall to the northwest, and we breathe fire at the same time. The wall crumbles down, and I see sunlight for the first time in months or maybe even years, and I roar in joy alongside Viserion. I take flight, it will be hard going at first but it will get easier soon. We have a long distance to cover, and we have not flown in a long time, but we will get to find him, and with him, we shall grow strong."
"Yeah!" Arya, Bran, and Rickon yelled in their excitement.
"So the dragons are on their way to find Jon?" Sansa asked nervously.
She hadn't been the best sister to Jon. She wasn't kind, but she wasn't hateful. Finding out that Jon wasn't her brother at all was confusing, but as she hadn't really been sisterly towards him she found it easier to transition from calling him 'half-brother' to 'cousin' in her head. Dragons heading towards him had Sansa concerned. Jon was supposedly one of the dragons' rider, but Targaryen's have been killed by their dragons before.
"I bet that will make you stop brooding for a little time, Snow." Robb said with a smirk. "Or is it Targaryen now. What do we call you?"
"Firstly, Snow is fine for now. It is what I'm used to." Jon responded. "And secondly, I don't brood."
All of the Stark children snorted in response. Even Sansa, although she was horrified, once she realised what she had just done. This caused Robb and Arya to burst into laughter at Jon's pout and Sansa's horrified expression.
"Anyway, before I get bullied even more." Some chuckles were heard here. "The chapter has ended. Who wants to read the next one?"
"I'll do it." Sansa said as she gently took the book from Jon's hands. "Jon had been having strange dreams of being Ghost for years."
