Work Text:

“He’s… okay.” Jon admitted, looking at his brother’s partial smile as the fireworks acted as a backlight. Jon wished it had gone differently, but what was he gonna do? He couldn’t change the past.

It was cathartic, it had been one hell of a week, especially for the Kent family. But they were gonna make Candice’s visit worth it. Even if Jordan’s cover story of the puppy scandal had led into him telling Candice of the Kent family secret.

Her reaction had been… surprising. She was… happy? It didn’t make sense to him. Although, he was happy that the tension between them had practically disappeared. But he was still mad at Jordan, of course.

He took a deep breath as he held Candice. They turned their heads, watching the fireworks. It reminded him of that time he saw fireworks being lit.

That was a while ago, wasn’t it…?

It had been a hectic couple of months as a Kent.

He looked at Candice, a smile forming on his face. Sure, she knew now. But that was his girlfriend. Now they had a stronger bond than he had expected.

Would he have told her?

He didn’t know. But the answer was probably not. He often kept important secrets to himself. Like the X-K– only his parents and Jordan, of course, knew about it. And Candice. Definitely Candice.

“Do you um– want to get out of here?” Jon said after a while, the fireworks dying down and the vibe of the party dying down with it. “We can take the truck and go anywhere you want.”

She giggled, looking around the party, most of the trucks and cars had gone, most of the people too. Then she nodded, “Yeah– I’d love that. It’d be good to actually get some time with you, y’know. Since I came to visit you.”

He grimaced as she said that. He hadn’t meant to flake on his girlfriend, but his mom needed to get Elizabeth and Lex’s situation dealt with, that creature that killed dad– grandpa… he was her private jet honestly, but it was important. He promised himself that.

He was constantly in his head the past couple days, and it had been crazy— getting powers, losing so many family members, getting Dad back, meeting new people who figured out their well-kept (to him at least) secret of who their family really was in a matter of days… And the cellar with Jordan, which he was still upset with himself about, but that’s a completely different story.

He waved to his brother and Denise, who were still chatting and talking about family, who she was, and who they really were. He didn’t really… blame Jordan for telling Candice, but he was allowed to be mad about how it had been done. He wanted to tell her when he was ready. He hated that he hadn’t been there and had to have Jordan cover for him. He was happy he was getting along with his twin again, too. That was at least something positive.

The two got into the truck, Jon thinking it was just for the act. He’d show Candice his powers as soon as the two got far enough from the others, and maybe something romantic would happen. He thought she’d want it…

Jon huffed for a moment and began driving as soon as his girlfriend got into the truck.

“You kept that from me? All this time?” She said to him, a stern-ish yet understanding expression forming on her face. “Why?”

“My dad is the world’s only superhero, I’m his son… I dunno Candice, maybe I was trying to protect you by not having you know… anyone come after you,” He admitted, a bit of anger forming with his words, but he quickly caught it and became remorseful. “I- I didn’t want anyone to hurt you because they knew you knew my family’s secret.”

He was honest with her. He had to be. He had flaked on her more times than he wanted to, and she deserved a proper explanation from him. Not Jordan, him.

“Did he tell you everything?” Jon asks, hoping he had kept the most recent part hidden.

“Um, sorta. He told me the whole ‘Superman is your dad, and Clark Kent is Superman’ thing, and then told me you had stuff happening— but then he just said that maybe it’d be better for you to tell me what’s going on with you?” Candice responded honestly, wondering what his brother had meant by the lack of information about Jon. “You are okay, right?”

Jon flashed her a quick grin as he turned the steering wheel left and right to reach an empty field near the Kent farm. “Yeah, more than okay in some parts.” He said quickly, getting out of the truck and slamming the door just as fast. Then he moved to her side, opening the door for his lady, and held out his hand for hers to take.

“Candice Pergande, may I show you my view?” He said cryptically and out of character for the young boy.

“Uhhh. Yeah, sure. Of course, Jon.” She answered with a confused, yet intrigued smile as she held onto his hand and got out of the vehicle. Then Jon wrapped his arm around her waist, and his other held onto her tightly.

Then he began to rise slowly into the air, holding his girl. It would definitely come as a shock to Candice to realize that the boy she had been dating for a couple months was up in the air, probably a few feet at this point, with her. She probably had seen him as a sweet, innocent guy who loved her for her, especially during the X-Kryptonite times.

At least, that was what Jon thought. He had tried so hard to make Candice feel like she wasn’t being left out of anything during her visit back to Smallville, yet had done so much to ignore her and had hoped that this would make it up to her.

Especially since she now knew that Jon Kent, her boyfriend, was the son of Superman, son of Smallville’s resident good guy, Clark Kent.

He hoped that he had made it up to her, looking deep into her eyes as they rose further into the air. Soon, the moon was visible, and they twirled for a moment, facing it and looking into its features.

“It’s– beautiful, Jon.”

“Just like you.”

Notes:

ahhh, what a refreshing episode, honestly! I needed a moment where I wasn't sobbing my eyes out haha.

anyway, I wanted to write something sweet between Candice and Jon, who I feel have suffered the most with CW budget cuts. this one is a little smaller, since I didn't exactly know what they have in store for Jon and Candice in the next episodes, if anything :)

Trivia: There are a couple references to past scenes, writings, etc, that are there for plot reasons (teehee). See if you can find 'em.

hope you enjoyed,
