He sits carefully for his mother and sisters as they fuss over him, powdering his skin and draping him in the finest silks they have been saving all year to afford, pinning up his dark hard in gold plated clips.
His family is hopeful that with this finery, Felix will catch the eye of some well to do merchant or noble. Someone with enough money and so taken by Felix’s beauty, they would be willing to overlook his lack of proper dowry and humble background. His older sister’s marriage had allowed them some semblance of security but with her wife expecting a baby, the need to secure a match had grown ever more pressing.
Or - Felix goes to the annual courting ball hoping to secure a respectable match that will help to provide for his family . He could never imagine what comes next.
