No one had taught the Prince of Faerghus how to make bread. Baking was for the workers in the palace kitchens, and for peasant women who didn’t have the luxury of buying bread from the bakeries in the city. The village where she and Dedue had made their home was about a week’s walk from Fhirdiad, and there was a baker when she and Dedue could have traded for fresh bread each morning, but Dedue had taught her both how to make the flatbread that his parents had made when he was a child and the crusty loaf that could be bought at any bakery in Fhirdiad.
