Chapter Text
The duel was supposed to be over. He conceded - he yielded honorably.
I was dying.
I knew I was before I had even hit the ground, feeling something break in my wings as I hit the cobblestone too hard. I laid there, staring up at the cloudless blue sky and gasping in pain, unable to move or speak. Everything hurt. I couldn’t figure out where I ended and the pain began.
I was dying.
I started losing all sense of touch to the point I wasn’t sure I could feel my fingers. People started shaking me - I thought I saw a mop of brown hair and two blondes, but I couldn’t figure out who they were. They were all saying something to me, but I couldn’t make out what they were saying.
“I’m okay,” I tried to say.
“Help me,” I tried to beg.
I’m not sure I even got the words out.
I was dying, and there was nothing I could do to save myself.
But that was not how my story began. It began a long time ago, when things were a lot more simpler.
