Brightened Wings, Darkened Flights

Summary:

Laila Night, a half-witch, half-seraph hybrid, is accepted into the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a transfer student in her fifth year. There, she will meet wizards she only knew about from papers, but threats as real as those she faced within her clan. War is coming, after all.

Will she be able to stay afloat and protect those she cares for as the war for magic's very soul approaches?

Notes:

Welcome to my "newest" story! Quotations are necessary because this story has been *years* in the making, and the idea of this story predates most of the other stories I've posted here.

Laila Night is an original character of mine and is a half-witch, half-seraph fifth year transfer student. Seraphs are also an original species, since there isn't anything like it in the HP universe. Everything regarding her, her family, her species, and her culture will be discussed as it becomes relevant to the story.

I have a couple different ideas when it comes to the relationships moving forward, and it will make sense as more and more chapters come out. Ultimately, the choices are between Laila/Harry, Laila/Draco, or Laila/Harry/Draco, along with the far future possibility of including one Tom Riddle in the mix ;). That particular idea will be extremely far down the line, though. This is a *very* slow burn story (any of the combinations above wouldn't start seriously happening until after Fifth Year is over), but I would love your thoughts on the matter as this story continues to build!

This story was inspired by a variety of works, including, but not limited to;
"Of Lies and Deceit and Hidden Personas" and "Twins: A Different Life", by Jessiikaa15,
"The Quiet Ones" by LonelyHarvest,
and "Winter’s Heart" by Nekoamamori

I am not JKRowling, and do not own the story or characters besides that of my own. After the initial release, chapters will be posted once a month. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the prologue and first three chapters!

Chapter 1: Prologue - Chapter 0

Chapter Text

The duel was supposed to be over.  He conceded - he yielded honorably.

I was dying.

I knew I was before I had even hit the ground, feeling something break in my wings as I hit the cobblestone too hard.  I laid there, staring up at the cloudless blue sky and gasping in pain, unable to move or speak.  Everything hurt.  I couldn’t figure out where I ended and the pain began.

I was dying.

I started losing all sense of touch to the point I wasn’t sure I could feel my fingers.  People started shaking me - I thought I saw a mop of brown hair and two blondes, but I couldn’t figure out who they were.  They were all saying something to me, but I couldn’t make out what they were saying.

“I’m okay,” I tried to say.

“Help me,” I tried to beg.

I’m not sure I even got the words out.

I was dying, and there was nothing I could do to save myself.

But that was not how my story began.  It began a long time ago, when things were a lot more simpler.
