Chapter 1: The story

Chapter Text

Mondstadt, 3 years ago:

“Run! Get everyone to safety!”

“Barbatos bless us…”

“Will we survive this?”

“Mommy, I’m scared!”

The city of Mondstadt was in chaos. Its people had just witnessed the capture of their archon, seen the true horror of the Gnosis the Fatui had combined into.

Of course, they didn’t know what it was. All they saw was a net glowing with the divine power of the Heavens, scooping up their archon, Barbatos, in one swoop.

The people were terrified. The Knights of Favonius were in chaos. The vision holders were nowhere to be seen. Animals were scurrying around the fountain, barking, screaming, and scratching at their heads.

The ground rumbled, pebbles and bushes bouncing around the city. The people huddled inside the houses trembled in fear, expecting the worst.

It never came.

The sky brightened back into its normal shade, the pigeons flew back onto the bridge. It almost seemed like a hallucination, the obscenely normal look of Mondstadt.

Even so, the citizens were glad. They dropped their worries, children crying in relief, parents thanking whichever god they could think of.

Then, it came.

A blue force field blurred the clear skies of the city of freedom, the mark of the cryo element encasing the entire community of Mondstadt.

Somewhere, an acting Grandmaster, accompanied by a man with blazing red hair stood, gazing intently at the new structure.

Somewhere, an alchemist and his assistant touched the force field, already analysing it.

Somewhere, two witches awakened a prophecy.

And somewhere else, a blue haired figure wielding a polearm gaped in awe, red eyes glinting with rare light.

Everywhere, the same thought echoed.

Will we survive this?

Liyue, 3 years ago:

“Qixing, gather every citizen! The Fatui is striking twice!”

Rex Lapis fell to the power. That was all they knew. The last thing they saw before being urged into their residences was the sight of a giant net, wrapping around the form of their supposedly dead god and disappearing. The earthquakes came next.

“Northland Bank! Clear!”

“Verr Goldet has reported, Wangshu inn, clear!”

“Chenyu, upper vale! All adventurers, clear!”

“All locations, clear!”

“Tianquan! What are your next orders?”

The Tianquan of Liyue sighed, anxiety leaking off her features.

“Summon the adepti. We will ask them what to do next.”

“Yes, ma’am!”

Suddenly, the ground stopped shaking. Every Qixing member sighed in relief. The Tianquan tensed even more, however.

Where was the aftershock?

“Ma’am, the adepti have arrived.”

The Tianquan nodded, still on her nerves.

The sky darkened.

Ah. There it was.

A cryo forcefield covered the entirety of Liyue Harbor, the clear work of the Fatui.

“Tianquan. We see you’ve been predicting the same thing.”

The elderly woman said from behind her, followed by a raspy voice of a male.

“We shall deal with this issue. Do not interfere with the adepti.”

The Conqueror of Demons was leaning behind, on a wooden pillar.

“Remember, we still have hope. Please stay strong, everybody!”

The half-qinlin’s voice was strong.

Somewhere, a Guhua clan master gripped his book and sighed.

Somewhere, a funeral parlor director tapped the shield lightly, murmuring sweet nothings to herself.

Somewhere, a crane adeptus swiped her hand over a device, analysing the shield.

And somewhere else, a Yuheng glared at the newly formed shield, mind brewing with curses and swears.

Everywhere, the same thought echoed.

Will we survive this?

Inazuma, 3 years ago:

“The shogun! The shogun is gone!”

“Madam Kujou, what are your orders?”

“Evacuate the citizens. Shut down the ports and gather up the Watatsumi soldiers. Don’t let anyone leave the city.”

Then, a flare of bright light, and a blue shield was up, covering Inazuma city, and possibly the rest of the islands.

A few minutes ago, the Raiden Shogun was trapped in a tight shield of light, the Musou no Hitotachi tied uselessly in another band of light. Her hair glowed with Divine power, but nothing worked as she was transported elsewhere.

Countless citizens were screaming in fear, two girls running around the crowd, holding several bottles of calming elixirs.

The general of the Shogunate army, alongside the priest of the Sangonomya shrine, worked together and calmed the crowd.

Nobody knew what was going to happen, and nobody wanted to know.

Somewhere, a weakened god sat in a tranquil domain, wondering what to do next.

Somewhere, a tired hybrid general touched the shield, looking to somewhere far away.

Somewhere, a wandering samurai sheathed his sword, his face twisted into a rare look of rage.

And somewhere else, a Yume-Baku smiled as the dreams of terror consumed her mind.

Everywhere, the same thought echoed.

Will we survive this?

Sumeru, 3 years ago:

“General Mahamatra, Head Scribe. What do you propose we do? The people of Sumeru are afraid. Lesser lord Kusalani has been captured. We don’t have a last resort.”

The General Mahamatra pinched the bridge of his nose, but the Grand Scribe narrowed his eyes.

“Don’t lose hope. Help is on the way. The city has been on lockdown before. What makes you think we won’t survive this?”

“Sir, we can’t solely rely on hope-”

The Scribe glared.

“Link this through the Akasha terminal. Show them that hope is not fickle.”

With that, he walked away.

The matra read the letter, disbelief spreading onto his features.

“The Hexenzirkel?! Isn’t that from Mondstadt?”

“The Hexenzirkel is known for their prophecy. If the Head Scribe approves of this, then I think we should also put our faiths on it.”

“If you’re really sure…”

Somewhere, a girl sat, memories flowing back into her head as the trauma overwhelmed her.

Somewhere, a puppet cried silently, impossible tears flowing down his face.

Somewhere, a forest watcher punched the shield, anger seeping into his veins as he cursed the Fatui.

And somewhere else, a guardian held her shield, standing tall and praying for the safety of her people.

Everywhere, the same thought echoed.

Will we survive this?

Fontaine, 3 years ago:

“Duke. I hope you know what you are doing. This jeopardizes all of Fontaine and its people.”

The Hydro dragon noted, his goblet swishing, the water inside it glowing as it was silently manipulated.

“I know. That harbinger wasn’t acting normally. As well as the Knave. If my theory is correct, then the ginger harbinger is our best option. He’s the one who you can actually control.”

The Duke of the Fortress grinned up at him. A brunette walked in then.

“Oh! Iudex! I’m just here to report that the shield isn’t doing any substantial damage. Yet.”

The Hydro dragon sighed.

“Please tell our resident magicians to lift the spirits of our people.”

Somewhere, a head nurse paced, a rare moment of discomfort showing when the shield glowed brightly.

Somewhere, an entity stood, slowly twisting her blade across the many particles that formed.

Somewhere, a duelist aimed her guns at the target, hitting it bullseye.

And somewhere else, a captain concerned the force field, knocking her gun against it.

Everywhere, the same thought echoed.

Will we survive this?

<>
Natlan, 3 years ago:

“It’s over. The heroes of Natlan have fallen.”

“The ode of resurrection…the flame has died.”

“The Pyro archon is gone.”

Somewhere, a lone figure stands, grieving the loss of his friends, his family.

Tears slipped off his face in a moment of weakness, his claymore hitting the ground in front of him.

There, one thought echoed.

Will Natlan stand?

<>
Nod-Krai, 3 years ago:

“The Lightkeepers are down! We can’t handle the wild hunt and the Fatui together! Send out the fae and the automatics!”

“Disegaging shield! We can do this!”

A young girl ran over to a device, her sleeves covering up the entirety of the machine.

Somewhere, a lantern floated, glowing red in the middle of bloodshed.

Somewhere, a dragon core dropped to the ground, living its final moments.

Somewhere, a grandmaster towered over the battlefield, his blue eyes wide with uncertainty.

And somewhere else, a surviving lightkeeper escaped the clutches of the enemy.

Everywhere, the same thought echoed.

Will we survive this?

<>
Unknown, 3 years ago:

The figure looked at the towering structure in front of him, unbridled power leaking out from it.

Somewhere, one thought echoed.

Will Teyvat survive this?

<>
Then, the Hexenzirkel’s prophecy was delivered.

Through the seven segments of the power of heaven
Through the seven nations now in peril
Find the one who resounds with the Wind
Who consumes the dreams of the people of the sakura
Find the one who resounds with the Earth
Who guards against the dark and holds the light
Find the one who resounds with the Lightning
Who commands the warriors of the ranks of the rock
Find the one who resounds with the Life
Who revived the fire along with five
Find the one who resounds with the Water
Who protects the dwellings in the dunes of sand
Find the one who resounds with the Fire
Who soughts the justice of the nation of water
Find the one who resounds with the Ice
Who will lead along and regain the hand
Through the seven segments of the power of heaven
Through the seven nations now in peril
This is the last hope, we shall prevail

<>

Teyvat is holding on to its last hope: The second prophecy of the Hexenzirkel is their last hope.

<>

The last hanging thread of fate is tearing, and there is only one way to save it. Severe the line between life and death. Restore the world. Follow their lead.
