Absolutely fantastic and deeper than I expected for a fairly campy premise.
I expected more Shaun of the Dead and less Last of Us, but have been very much impressed despite myself.
Was toward the end of the first chapter when I needed to sleep. Not sure if it was excess caffeine or Zombie-related waking dreams that kept me from sleeping, but my brain kept substituting Ilya and Shane into the Last of Us episode with Bill and Frank. Fucking ow.Having now finished the work. It was both difficult to get through and also impossible to put down.
Really fucking well done. I get the hype. I may even end up rereading it. -

"Hi, solnyshko.”
The Russian pet name set a firework off inside Shane's mind as he heard it cooed from behind him. The intonation was just as he remembered, but the voice was much deeper. He turned and felt himself short circuit. It took every ounce of willpower to not let his jaw drop cartoonishly to the floor. Shane would recognize his individual features anywhere, even after 5 years. But it was as if someone had snapped their fingers and the smug, silly Russian boy who had been attached to Shane's hip for 3 summers was transformed into some sort of fucking Adonis right before his eyes.
“Ilya-” was all Shane managed before strong arms were wrapped around his waist and lifting him off the ground in a greeting all too familiar from years ago.
OR
When Shane Hollander & Ilya Rozanov spent their summers as teens in an elite hockey camp, they quickly became inseparable friends. But they lose touch when Shane moves on as a prospect for the NHL and Ilya for the KHL.Years later, Montreal makes a bold move to take the hottest player in the KHL. After hearing of the Russian's reputation, the Montreal Captain is tasked with keeping his old best friend and new teammate out of trouble.

They are so fucking cute. Jfc.
Some depth, a bit of drama, but so much fluffy steamy goodness. I love it 😘 -

Shane sometimes needs deep pressure after games to calm down again.
Ilya learns about this when Shane crashes and is willing to help.
It becomes their ritual, and Ilya is supportive - but he is, true to himself, a little funny about it, too.Bookmarked by BasBleu013

Summary
Standing beneath the heavy, silver glow of the full moon, Ilya looked devastatingly beautiful. The harsh neon lights from the strip threw sharp, colorful shadows across his features, highlighting the strong clench of his jaw and the thick texture of his curls. But beneath that usual mask of Russian arrogance, he looked incredibly young. Almost cute. It was a soft, vulnerable side that Ilya never allowed the media or the fans to see, and Shane was the only one witnessing it.
Looking at him, a sudden, terrifying realization hit Shane with the force of an open-ice hit.
Fuck. I'm in love with him.
Or
What if Shane actually said "I love you" first? What if he said it in the most cowardly way possible, before Ilya confesses in his Russian monologue?

Shane Hollander doesn’t do cheat days.
Not with his training. Not with his diet. Not with his life.
Then a ridiculously attractive Russian-Italian chef in Milano force-feeds him the best ravioli he’s ever had and calls him a good boy and things spiral from there.
Between Olympic pressure, impossible expectations, and a connection neither of them is ready to name, Shane finds himself unraveling in ways he doesn’t understand.- Language:
