Absolutely fantastic and deeper than I expected for a fairly campy premise.
I expected more Shaun of the Dead and less Last of Us, but have been very much impressed despite myself.
Was toward the end of the first chapter when I needed to sleep. Not sure if it was excess caffeine or Zombie-related waking dreams that kept me from sleeping, but my brain kept substituting Ilya and Shane into the Last of Us episode with Bill and Frank. Fucking ow.Having now finished the work. It was both difficult to get through and also impossible to put down.
Really fucking well done. I get the hype. I may even end up rereading it.

I've already happily reread this like three times.Shane gets injured by Conway after the final horn and ends up with an intense concussion. His parents are in Mexico and so the Bears 'kidnap' him so Ilya can keep and eye on him while he recovers.
Cliff spins this into a prank on social media, and it goes kinda viral. Shane realizes that maybe other teams actually mean it when they say they're all friends and it kinda ends up being family, unlike the toxic mess back in Montreal.
After much agonizing, and flirting from the bears team, he waives his no trade and Farah gets to work.
Shane just watched a Boston v Admirals home game from the friends and family box.

Turns out there's another former player in town...Ilya Rozanov, a single dad of twin girls and bakery owner.Shane get roped into coaching a U9 girls hockey team rediscovering that hockey can be fun. He and Ilya reconnect, but Shane still has a lot of work to do and is scared of committing, not just to Ilya but to everything.
Shane gets scared and breaks things off BC he needs to work on himself, but hurts both himself and Ilya in the process. Processing things is helping though and David is great. He might be ready to all things out with Ilya instead of just working in isolation. .

So much has happened. They have yearned and gotten back together, finally actually talked about a lot of things and seem to finally be getting on the same page. Shane stepped in and stepped up when mayday got hurt, they are taking things slow physically so they can build actual trust before jumping into bed again. Though that seems just around the corner.

cottage never happened. goes canon divergent in 2017 or so.This is a single square of dark chocolate and perfectly brewed plain tea in a world of salted pretzel milk chocolate bars. I love both, but his hits different.
It's refined, satisfying, and complex, like real relationships are. I have a soft spot for old man yaoi, but this is aching and tender in a different way than this fandom usually produces.

Yuna takes over as the power behind the throne at the Centaurs and renegotiates and reorganizes basically everything. Better sponsors, new agents, etc for the whole team and franchise.
I love this idea and want it as a subtler thread on a longer fic. Absolutely amazing. 10/10

Shane loves playing hockey but the pressure of being a center is just too much. A goalie coach at a summer camp suggests maybe changing his position could being the joy back into it.
Being a goalie may be less glamorous but the routines and allowances for quirks are exactly what he needs, even if it's a much less glamorous spot.
He's a damn good goalie, and Ilya respects it, he also thinks this little stat encyclopedia is kind of adorable when they meet at WJC.Mostly follows canon so far, but there are some peripheral changes that are having a big impact. I kind of love it. Also the author is an actual hockey nerd, which makes it so much better.
