Sokka always felt he was a very perceptive person. His friends and his sister would laugh if they ever heard him say it, but he was certain the expression of longing had always been a noticeable one. And it was so obviously displayed on the face of the girl sitting across from him, two people over, at their lunch table.
Her hand was propping up her chin, elbow on the table, gazing directly at the boy sitting next to Sokka, obliviously eating his lunch and not really paying attention to the conversation happening around him. Sokka had hit the jackpot. Mai was in love with Zuko!
Three years later, Sokka is still suffering the consequences.
