“Hi, this is Firefighter Buckley with the 118. Isabel and Josephina got a clean bill of health, sir. You don’t have anything to worry about, I’ll be here with them if they have any questions for us,” Buck reassures, and, surprisingly, he’s met with absolute silence on the other end.
He waits a few seconds, then lowers the phone to check if the call dropped. It still says ‘Edmundo’ on the screen, and Buck catches a glance at the contact picture of said Edmundo on Isabel’s phone, and gapes for a moment. The guy’s real young, holding a newborn baby in his arms, baseball cap pulled down over most of his face but a dazzling smile, clear as day, peaks out.
“Right. Uh, thank you, Firefighter Buckley.” And wow, oh. It’s a nice voice too, velvet and rich sounding. A little gravelly, but in a very pleasant way. Buck likes it. But not in any way that means something. Objectively, it’s a nice sounding voice. Right.

Historians weren't sure exactly where the tradition started or why it became such a common phenomenon even across cultures. Sure, different countries had different ways of burning their soulmates flowers, but all of them held that same tradition. Most only burned them once, a final goodbye or a promise to meet next time when they couldn't in this life. For the more dedicated lovers, one might see a monthly burning.
Duke buys flowers for his soulmate everyday. If they could just stop dying then maybe Duke's allowance wouldn't go towards his local flower shop every week. However, his soulmate has a bad habit of dying at least once a day and then coming back. So, Duke keeps buying his soulmate flowers.
It's only proper after all.

Kacchan rolled his eyes so aggressively Izuku was mildly worried they would roll out of his head. “Fuck you,” he informed Izuku emphatically. “I know that you’re not exactly over your crush. You and I both know that the literal worst way to get over a crush is by continuing to tie yourself to him in increasingly complicated ways, like living with his fucking family. So, why?”
“Shouto thinks that I’m made of glass,” Izuku said. He said it to the nutritional label of a jar of miso paste instead of to Kacchan himself, though.
Kacchan sighed. “You’re trying to prove something to him.”
“I’m trying to help him,” Izuku corrected quietly.
