I really wanted this scene in the book but it never came up. It was a little weird that Grace and Rocky never spoke of their personal lives to each other apart from Rocky mentioning his mate. I also like that you touch upon the nuances of language here. I get that the book was about the science but I still missed more language barrier stuff.
Yeah, this was basically the first scene I wanted to write from the book. At the same time, I kind of get why Weir left it out since the book is more oriented around science and technological issues rather than personal drama. But hey, that's what fanfics are for.
And yeah, the little language thing at the end was a little detail that snuck up on me. I'm kind of surprised that it didn't appear in the book, but like you said, Weir is more science based than language based.
