I finished reading Project Hail Mary only a couple of days ago and I'm suffering from Grace & Rocky withdrawal, and this was a perfect fic to find! You've done such a good job capturing their voices, it really sounds like it's been lifted out of the book! I love the bit about Eridians having multiple words for promise, it's such a neat little detail, and Rocky's understanding and compassion melted my whole heart. I didn't even think about how Eridians (or Rocky, at least) have almost perfect memories, and so Grace's memory loss would be an even bigger deal than it was to Grace. I loved reading this, it was the perfect salve to finishing PHM.
It's been a good long while since I wrote this, but I do still feel strongly about the memory stuff, especially given how Rocky's memory and Grace's lack thereof both set the pace of the plot and the book as a whole. And multiple promise words... well, synonyms still exist among a single language. Between multiple languages from different planets, some shenanigans are bound to be afoot. And yeah, ironically I do remember being in your position, having read PHM, and having this very specific angle I wanted to see scratched. Glad to have done it justice.
