A prophet warned Snow and David that only one thing could stop the Evil Queen: their child, once grown, would have to sacrifice herself to protect the Queen. Only then would the kingdom—and the mistakes of Snow’s past—be truly undone.
Horrified at the thought of raising, loving, and nurturing a child only to send her to certain death, Snow and David make a desperate choice. They send Emma to a world where time flows faster, allowing her to grow in safety—away from the shadow of the prophecy.
But on her 30th birthday, she returns, unprepared, and is confronted with the truth: she must make the ultimate sacrifice to save the kingdom from the Queen. Only, the sacrifice isn’t what anyone thinks it is—and the consequences may be far more complicated than anyone could imagine.

There is a woman on Emma’s front doorstep, and there are tears in her eyes.
She flings her arms around Emma’s shoulders, squeezing tighter than Emma would ever let anyone inside of her personal boundaries. “God,” the woman says, voice nearly breaking over the words, “It’s been so long. I’ve been doing everything I possibly can to get back to both of you—"
The woman turns her mouth towards Emma’s—
And Emma jerks back.
Maybe, once a long time ago, she thought that she might be interested in something like this, in women, in someone but her boyfriend—
It took years for Emma to even let in Killian. Why would she ever let some random stranger kiss her?
And so Emma pulls back quickly, sharply, and demands: “Who the hell are you?”
The woman swallows, hard. “That’s right,” she says, “You don’t remember who I am. Of course you don’t.” Her posture immediately pulls tight and back. “Regina Mills. I’m the Mayor of Storybrooke, Maine. And I need to speak to you about you and your son’s past.”
(In which Emma opens the door of her NYC apartment to find Regina Mills with a memory potion in hand, desperate to show Emma that she and her son Henry are missing someone important.)
