Collie recognizes the laughter immediately even though it's been months (yes, somehow months… how did the time pass so quickly, and how has he been getting anything done in the meantime) since he last heard it. Soft, bright, warm, like sunbeams seeping through your curtains on a summer's day. And just like the sun in summer, Collie got so used to having it around that he stopped appreciating it.
