When a car accident takes away not only her wife, but her hopes of building a family, Caitlyn decides to leave behind her hometown to move back in with her college roommate Powder Lanes. The friendship the two have quickly becomes the only thing keeping Caitlyn from giving up on life completely.
After nearly dying while deployed, Vi returns home to South Carolina after finding out the love of her life was seeing someone else. Though her mother is thrilled, her sister is less than pleased to see the return of the sister she believes abandoned her.
Eventually Caitlyn and Vi end up meeting at Powder's engagement party and form a trauma bond which they believe is meant to be nothing more than a friendship of understanding. Yet as they begin to spend more and more time together, something deeper beneath the surface begins to form. Will they allow their relationship to develop into something more or will they both hold on to their fear of life taking away the things and people that matter most to them?

Vi’s tongue feels like cotton in her mouth, but she tries anyway. Even if no sound comes out.
“Cait!” It’s hoarse, a ghost of a weeping plea. Her throat burns.
And yet, Caitlyn’s uninjured eyelid twitches at the sound. It opens slowly, as if Vi had summoned her back from wherever the pain and exhaustion had taken her.
As if that single note in her voice was enough to pull her from the darkness.
Perhaps it was.

Caitlyn Kiramman was the top ballerina in Piltover Ballet Company, aptly following in her lineage’s footsteps. Vi was a freshly released inmate who made a name for herself in Zaun's pitfighting ring.
An injury that threatens Caitlyn's promising career and an altercation that threatens Vi’s newfound freedom force them together at the Kiramman Dance Academy. “You landed on me! I was following you!” As if that explained everything.
“You can’t be here!” She takes the enforcer’s arm.
Caitlyn pulls her arm out of Vi’s hand. “What? Don’t…” They tangle in each other’s legs, crashing down to the floor once again.
“Excuse you! I’m trying to get you out of here!”
Caitlyn huffs. “I don’t need saving!” She whips her pistol from its holster on her thigh and starts to aim it toward the thugs.
Vi takes the enforcer’s arm again, “No! They can’t know you’re here!”
“Let me go!”
“How are you this stubborn in a gun fight!”

Fresh out of an eight-year prison stint, Vi finds herself thrust into an underwater world of warring criminal masterminds who will stop at nothing to hold the power of a new mysterious drug.
Caitlyn, fresh off of a year of being undercover in an extensive sting operation, is itching to get back out into the field rather than face her emotional scars.
Together they will uncover the vast network of corruption that goes all the way to the top and discover that the key to this new drug, just might be closer to them than they thought.
