-and it had to be Lucifer, right? They had turned out similar, but surely Nick's soul had swiftly been drop kicked to Hell when Jack had burnt him up. And yeah, Sam felt bad that he hadn't been able to help Nick after everything that he'd been through, after everything Lucifer and Crowley had done to him, but some people were so broken that they were beyond help. He had to keep telling himself that to not let the guilt eat him up so much-
A week after the world didn't end (again), Jack- stepping into his role as God- starts fixing what Chuck broke. Such as bringing back some of the people (and angels) that were killed. And Jack? Jack isn't a God that holds grudges- so that includes giving his biological Father another chance. With some terms and conditions that drop Lucifer right back into Sam's life.

Sam wants to hate Lucifer, but this broken thing in the dungeon is nothing like the Lucifer he remembers. And as more details come to light, the hunter finds himself re-evaluating everything he's ever known about the fallen archangel.

Well, during a meeting with the demon king about getting his help with an uprising that has proved to be stronger than most others, Lucifer learns why his back has been killing him.

"Look, I..." Adam taps his thumb on his knee as it bounces up and down. He looks at Michael out of the corner of his eye, at the angel rolling and re-rolling his shirt cuffs as if he needs his fingers to have something to do. "You don't have to talk about it, but. I just. You said you could still hear me, whenever I prayed to you." Michael's hands go stock-still. "And I just, I wondered..." Adam's knuckles have gone white as he clenches his hand, feeling his heart drop. "Was wherever - the place where you were -" gulping heavily and turning to the archangel, he asks, voicing something they haven't talked about: "Was it... was it as bad as the Cage, Michael?"
It is as if Michael's body freezes, like he isn't breathing, which could be the case; Adam still isn't entirely clear on what the archangel's body actually needs. But then it's like something snaps, and those stiff shoulders and strong hands begin shaking. Reaching out and taking Adam's hand, his voice barely audible as it sounds as if it's being forced out of his throat:
"No, Adam. It was worse."
(Or, after a while topside together, Adam wonders how Michael got back and where exactly he'd been when gone. So he decides to ask.)

After taking a case and making an unlikely ally, they began to let themselves see the perils their surrogate father went through everyday, and realizes that they too have taken Bobby for granted. With this, Sam and Dean are determined to let the older hunter knows how much they appreciate him and what he does for them and others. And what better way to do it than to give him cuddles and random display of affection out of nowhere? Eventually, Sam and Dean's friends caught onto their behavior, and they too have joined in on the wagon.
Mix in a couple of angels and demons and other supernatural creatures, and things started to get weird and confusing for Bobby.
