if you had asked him six months ago, when he was in the throes of rehab and recovery, that he would be spending the night after his first shift back at work making a burner tiktok account, he would have laughed in your face.
but, alas, as soon as he gets home from the hospital, that's what he's doing.
(or, dr. j gets gossipy.)

Summary
“Wait, this guy was asking what you like to do outside of work?” Santos asks, as both her and Javadi creep closer to her, suddenly very interested in what she has to say.
“I mean, yeah,” she says, confused again. “He was trying to be nice, I think. His stitches were taking awhile because I kept getting interrupted and he was making conversation to…show…”
She trails off when she sees how both women are staring at her.
“What?”
“Mel,” Santos says. “He was flirting with you.”
(or, a reflection on renaissance fairs, and if they are dorky or not.)

Summary
Mel’s third-favorite scene in Dirty Dancing is only a second long. It’s when Johnny jumps off the stage during the final dance and flips his head up right on cue with the singer crooning “Hey, baby!”
So it was very distracting that, for the rest of the day after her karaoke session with Myrna, Frank had been quietly singing those two words to her every time they ran into each other. A “Hey baby!” when he slid into the chair next to her in the breakroom. Another when they met in the middle both jogging to an ambulance.
She couldn’t help but laugh every time he did it which, knowing Frank, meant he’d probably do it tomorrow, and the next day, and the next.

Summary
“I’m not leaving,” he says, “But we don’t have to talk about it right now if you don’t want. Becca’s all taken care of, and Emma’s getting her discharged. Okay?”
Despite everything, she nods.
“Okay.”
Langdon smiles, the left corner of his lips pulling gently to the side, awkward and earnest, and sits—crisscross applesauce, Mel thinks— in front of her. “Okay about Becca, or okay let’s talk?”
Mel takes a deep breath in. She thinks about the photo on her phone, arms wound tightly around her father’s bicep, and the petulant feeling in her gut on the swing set. She thinks about the burning feeling she would get whenever she saw Becca leap through the air, looking for all the world like an angel, setting sun lighting her brunette pigtails into a vibrant orange, and names it.
Envy.
She exhales slowly.
“Okay,” Mel says, finally looking at Langdon directly. “Okay, let’s talk.”

Summary
"Your final lap was near perfect, so I don't know why you're so stressed about it."
"Do I have the fastest lap?" Mel pushed.
He cracked his neck, a dangerous place to draw her attention. "Well no, but it's not just you on this team, is it?"
or: Mel King is a perfectionist, Frank is way too chill about everything, and there's really no reason for an F1 Driver and their Race Engineer to treat each other like this.
