Louis’ hand is cold when Lestat holds it, his face like ice when Lestat touches his jaw. His heart hammers against his ribs.
Instinct kicks in.
Lestat slits his wrist with a sharp nail, bringing it to Louis’ unmoving, beautiful lips, letting blood spill over his chin like a cascade.
“What are you doing?!” Gabriella again. Her voice irritates him.
“He needs my blood,” Lestat answers, not taking his eyes away from Louis’ still figure.
“What? You’re not well enough to do this, Lestat!” Cookie’s voice now. “You lost a lot of blood, they’re giving him blood already, there’s no need—”
“He needs mine!” He shouts, losing all composure, only then feeling the tears angrily stream down his face. He thinks of Louis’ reaction to the taste of his blood at the bar, the first time that century. His hollowed cheeks, eyes rolling to the back of his skull. Lestat wants to fall to his knees and weep. “I know it, he needs mine. It’ll help him! Just… Just let me do this…”

Whatever carefully blank expression Lestat is trying on disappears like a slap. “Armand made a fledgling. Why would he do that?” Lestat asks.
“Oh, you know,” Louis says, watching the three dots of a new text pop up. “He knew Daniel was… important to me.”
He means to say it with rueful annoyance, as if to say, “so he ruined him.” But as Daniel’s text comes in—the most important question I should have asked you in that fucking interview: where do you buy coke in Dubai?—Louis’s voice trails off, his words maybe lacking some of the bite.

Summary
Vox barely listened as Carmine talked; he was looking at Alastor. He wasn’t alone in that; half the Overlords around the table were focusing on Carmine and the other half were staring at the deer. They were all thinking about it, Vox knew:
The Radio Demon is sleeping with the Devil.
The news had been everywhere the last two weeks. Every TV-channel, news-site, even the out-of-date newspapers had covered the story. It was discussed on every platform in Hell. Alastor himself was seemingly completely engrossed in Carmine’s presentation. In fact, he was way more interested than Vox had seen him be at a meeting before; the Radio Demon asked questions, came with suggestions, and was acting like there was nothing he wanted more than to listen to her. But he had to notice. Had to feel the stares, the questions hanging in the air.
The first Overlord Meeting after Alastor’s relationship with the King is revealed.

“All the way off, Alastor,” Lucifer scolded.
“Why, your majesty, one might almost think that you want to see me in the altogether,” Alastor quipped, but Vox recognized the discomfort in his voice.
He’d heard it before, after all.
“Eugh, no, I’d really rather not,” Lucifer made a face, “But if I’m going to heal you, I’m going to need to touch the injury. Now hurry up. Believe it or not, I have other things I’d rather be doing. Like scooping KeeKee’s litter box.”
Alastor sighed and pulled the tails of his shirt out of his trousers, unfastened the last few buttons, and hesitantly shrugged the shirt off his slim shoulders and set it aside.

He opens his eyes. Lucifer’s expression is inscrutable, but the air around him feels charged with energy like the moments before a storm.
“I need you to tell me what’s going on. Right now.”
Alastor forces himself to be calm. He will face this with dignity. “I believe I am going into heat, your Majesty.”
